I posted back ago about 3 choices myself and my Armed Security Officers had in 40SW. FNS 40, XD 40 AND RUGER SR 40. All 3 of these guns are excellent choices. Especially the FNS 40. The only 3 owner of company gave. Well he came back to me And said he got the deal that would best fit us and his budget. GLOCK 23 4gen wins out. He got good deal from local gun shop.
He also is having ammo issued. First was Federal 165 grain Hydra Shock. But now he flip flopped and got better deal on Winchester PDX 1 180 grn BJHP. What is your thoughts of Glock 23 4GEN Winchester PDX 1 180 grn BJHP combo? To the other Guns mentioned

Good enough to ride the river with.

Glocks won't let you down.

If you can, add a NY-1/3.5 lb connector for a smooth 8 lb trigger pull.

I use that setup on all my Glocks.

Like Deaf said, you can't go wrong with the 23. Great and reliable gun. I haven't used those rounds personally, but I haven't had any feed issues with any ammo through a 23!

Glock 23...good choice. You might want to consider a 9mm barrel from Storm Lake or Lone Wolf to offer you add'l ammunition possibilities. My wife's G23 has one and it shoots, hallelujah, to the same impact point as the .40 S&W barrel. 9mm is generally cheaper than .40 hereabouts. Rod

It sounds like the decision is already made, so why the poll?

It's funny, I was about to type that out and I saw you posted it already.

However, I think a Glock 23 Gen 4 makes an ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING defensive / service weapon. And Winchester PDX 1 180gr is what the FBI issued , perhaps still issues I believe (correct me if I'm wrong, pray excuse me, but I'm under the impression they ASKED for 9mm service weapon/service round solicitations, but they haven't actually bought them, save for the 9mm Glocks they issue females and male agents unable to pass firearm quals with the .40 S&W Glocks). It's a fine round, the same lineage and perhaps ultimate variation of the "Black Talon".

I am of the mind that there is not one "magic bullet" for ammo, so I like to keep and sometimes rotate my defensive rounds. I also primarily carry a .40, and I have Speer Gold Dots as my primary round right now (165gr, in-gun), and some now-discontinued-I-believe Winchester Ranger SXT 180grs as backup mags. Sometimes I will also use and definitely favor/respect Federal HST or Hydra-Shok (the absence or presence of a penetrator is the only difference between HST and Hydra-Shok). {for the record, I believe Hornady also makes a superior collection of ammo- across the board- but they were not very nice to me with a complaint, and Mr Hornady himself wound up responding to the emails with a curt dismissal of my problem and from then on I won't buy or support them, but their stuff is top-notch, no question.}

ANYWAY, I digress mightily, a Glock 23 Gen 4 w/ Winchester PDX-1 180gr is outstanding IMHO. I am carrying a Glock 23 Gen 3 right now, with Winchester 180gr SXTs in the backup mags in my pockets. That is, until I go pickup my brand new Glock 27 Gen 4 Battlefield Green later today, as soon as it gets delivered to the FFL and I get the damned phone call :cool:

Carried Gen 3 for 22 years on road. Whole dept. 20 guns, no problems. Also Boston Police with over 2100. We have used all the rounds list above. Gold Dot was the last one.
Switch to Glock 21 now. Young guns like the 45 better.
