Glock 23 Trigger

I purchased a Glock 23 earlier this year - the first gun I've ever owned. I also bought a Browning Buckmark Camper recently, just for fun.

After shooting the Browning, I have come to realize that there is a great deal of takeup in the Glock trigger. Is this normal for all Glocks? I like the standard trigger pull of approx. 5 pounds, but would like to eliminate the takeup. Is this something a gunsmith can fix, or are there any trigger kits that eliminate this?

I appreciate the advice.

Hays,
Remember, you are de-activating three safeties when you pull that trigger. According to the Glock specifications, there should be ~12.5mm (~0.5in) of trigger travel for discharge. This may be found on page 9 of your manual. I am not a Glock armorer, so I can't tell you about any fix. My guess is that the 1/2in is necessary to work the safeties, and messing with it may be dangerious.

Hays,

I too felt this way about the Glock trigger at first. However, Denfoote is correct...the trigger characteristics are intentional and are safety related (since there's no manual safety). Practice a lot with your Glock and you will come to appreciate it's trigger in time. It's never going to equal the nice crisp trigger of a SA, but that's an entirely different beast. One other thing, the excess take-up is really only an issue on the first shot of a string...so don't stop until the slide locks!

Regarding smithing the trigger, can't say I've ever heard it done. Regarding trigger weight, Glocks come standard with ~5.5 lb. triggers. You can fit it with a 3.5 lb trigger but this shouldn't change the amount of take-up. Good shooting!

I have heard people say the NY trigger would give you about an 8 lb pull, and would get rid of some of the slack. Don't know, haven't had the stones to get one put in one of mine.

Good grief, guys!! Learn the technique of only releasing the trigger until it resets. You only have to put up with the long takeup on the first shot. I also use 3.5# connectors on my Glocks.

The Buckmark is a true single action gun. Pulling the trigger has one effect/action: releasing the hammer/striker. We can argue about what exactly the Glock is all day long, but I humbly consider it a "one and a half action" because it has one and a half effects/actions: pulling the hammer/striker back a portion of the way and releasing it.

What this all means is that the Glock will always have some take up in the trigger (that's the effort to pull the hammer/striker back the last millimeter or so), unless you converted the mechanism to a true single action trigger.
