I saw a GLOCK 23 in a gun shop today.It was pre ban i think.Are they 13 rds?Anyway it seems like it would be a great carry gun.GLOCKS are so light my brother has 2 of them and loves them.He says half the time he almost forgets he has it on.I was wondering about recoil in the 23 because of it's weight.I have shot the glock 9mm and they have little felt recoil,easy to put 3 quick rds on target.Also does the load you shoot in the 23 affect recoil?I like the GLOCKS for their short trigger pull kind of like my 1911 but not quite.I love my 1911 and carry it 7 or 8 months out of the year,But when summer gets here it turns into a love hate thing really quick!! If you know what i mean.I have seen 180 gr. loads for the 40 they are Golden Sabers,they are moving at about 975 fps i think.They are supposedly the only 180 gr. 40 out there that reliably expands.Is this true?Also is it true that not even the best Hollow Points expand all of the time and therefore the bigger bullet is better?I read that the US Marshalls and the FBI use 40 GLOCKS 22's and 23's i think.There must be a reason for this,right??If the slow 40 180 Golden Sabers are used does that make it more effective?ie:Heavy and Slow?Also what is the going rate for a GLOCK 23? Is it worth it to go for the pre ban?Whats the price for a pre ban vs post ban?Thanks for any help.

First things first...the GUN isn't preban or postban. It can come with preban hicap MAGS, but you can buy preban hicap mags and put them in any handgun or rifle, no matter when it was made (with the exception of "assault rifles" made from some imported parts after the 89 ban which use US parts to allow a pistol grip and count the mag as a US part, but that's another story).
Next, 40 is a good caliber, but if you want a Glock, why not go with the 30 in 45 caliber, since that's what you carry normally?
Thirdly, you CAN carry a 1911 comfortably in summer IF you use the right holster and are able to wear the right clothes.

1911guy, Rikwriter was RIGHT that there are no preban or postban guns...only magazines. There ARE guns built before the magazine ban... but THAT doesn't really matter. 1911Guy: BUY SOMETHING ALREADY!!!

#1 The G23 is a great gun. One of my favorite Glocks. This gun does not have much recoil as do none of the Glock because of the way that they are made and the way they sit low in your hand. If you are looking for a .40 in a CCW gun you should also check out the G27. As stated before the G30 in .45 is also a great choice.
#2 If you can pick up some "pre ban" mags for your Glock good deal. Make sure that they are not dented, sprung, yadda, yadda, yadda.
#3 YES, It is very True that even the so called best hollow points can not be counted on to expand every time do to several factors. The two main things that you want to happen when you shoot are penetration and expansion. If expansion does not occur then I want the larger bullet to create the largest possible wound cavity in the COM in case I do not hit a vital. If you do not hit a "vital" as I call it then you must count on the cavity to lose blood and oxygen to the brain. Did a bad job trying to explain this but It would take up the whole post.

I had a Glock 23 (older model without finger grooves) and it was great gun; no jams, good accuracy, easy to conceal, hard hitting bullet. Then I developed arthritis, and my .40 Glock became an agonizing thing to shoot. I traded in my hard kicking Glock 23 for a softer kicking Glock 19C.
To me at least, the Glock 23 had a much sharper kick than a full size 1911 in .45 acp. I would say if you don't mind shooting a .357 with magnum loads go for the Glock 23. If I where going to buy a .40 caliber Glock it would be a compensated Glock 23C.

I have a 23. Nice pistol and felt recoil is not that much different from the 9mm M19.
I'm in the same boat, 1911 when cooler, G23C in the heat.
I like the .45 ACP, but when it's hot it's a real pain. With the G23C I can put a lot of rounds on target REALLY REALLY fast.
The full-cap mags are indeed 13 rounds, and can be had for about $70.
Also, I prefer the 135 or 155 grn. loads, especially Federal's PP rounds. Easier on the recoil and in my experience more accurate.
And the Glock doesn't rust when placed next to my sweaty, nasty body!
