Glock 23! Drop in Glock QC?

Couldn't resist the call of Glock. I went down to my favorite shop and got a Glock 23. I noticed some major changes, however.

1. The slide now has a bright finish. It reminds me of the teflon on cooking pans.

2. The feed ramp is no longer highly polished. It's still very smooth, but it's now nearly the same color as the rest of the barrel, but just a bit lighter.

3. The rear slide rails are shorter.

There was another guy at th counter when I did the transaction. He claimed to be a Glock armorer. After I paid my money he told me I should've gotten a used or older Glock 23. He claims the newest ones are junk. "If it doesn't say 'Made in Austria' on the slide, then it's made in the US. Only frame is made in Austria," he said. Any truth to this rumor?

No truth to what Ive heard yet. You said the slide now has a brighter finish... but it sounds like your Glock IS "older OR used" if it has the shorter slide rails.

The rails on the new Glocks are longer so they can more readily support the new .357 Sig ... or so I've been told. I really doubt there's much of a difference in quality between the Austrian and the American Glocks.

The other guy was probably just jealous of your new toy... don't listen to him,
Ben

I hope you kept the P228. It is truly a great gun. I was a real dufus for selling mine. Every once in a while I get the urge to buy another. If one came along at the right price, I just might.
You will like the G23. Its one hell of a package.
Best regards,
Allen

Allen,

Nope, the P228 went away. Took a big hit, but I had to get a Glock 23. Despite all my efforts, and I'm very careful, there were rust specks on the grip screw and on the inside of the slide. I also didn't like the gouging marks on the rear of the frame made by by the safety block. I could've sent to SIG Arms, but that would've been $35 just for shipping. Like my late father used to tell me: "Son, you just never learn."

Do you like your Glock 23?

Tecolote, I think your dad was right! My P228 would be among the last of my pistols to go. It is a class act! Then again, we pistol aficionados are a fickle lot. Regards, Richard.

I bought a 23 about two weeks ago. I have several other Glocks that are several years old, and I too noticed the 'shinier' finish on the new one. I also bought a 27 at the same time, and it had the slicker finish. It holds prints much better than my older ones. Very sweet piece(s).

Ben The slide rails on the new Glock 23 are not longer but are shorter. I am comparing my 5 year old 23 with the new 23 I bought yesterday. The new one IS a new one. It is true the new feed ramp is not quite a smooth as the old one but yesterday I test fired 200 rounds of S @ B with zero problems. It clearly says on the frame, cast into it, Made in Austria". I think you are thinking about Sigs, some of which have parts like the slide made in the USA. To my knowledge no Glocks are made in the USA. I doubt if any TFL member who owns a Glock will not find the "Made in Austria" on the top right side of the frame. But then again Glock might be lying to us all :)

My G19 and G33 both have "AUSTRIA" written on the slide and were both purchased one year ago. I have noticed that my G33 has a rougher looking slide finish when compared to my G19. Haven't seen any Glocks lately so can't comment on the slide finish but I am getting the urge to buy a G30!! :)
I like Glock.
