Glock 23, a Few Questions..

Hey all, I search this forum quite often when I need some answers but rarely post. However, I recently acquired a Gen 3 Glock 23 in exchange for my Taurus .38 revolver and have a few questions. I traded gun-for-gun because it seemed like such a good deal at the time.

The feel of the Glock is much different than the revolver, and I have found myself placing my left index finger over the front of the trigger guard. it seems to help with control, do you guys recommend this placement?

Second, when I attempt to remove the slide, it is kind of difficult for me to keep the slide lock down so the slide can push forward. It usually gets stuck, then I have to pull the slide back to start over (or pull the trigger then the slide falls off, but that doesn't seem right). Am I just doing this wrong or does that sound like a problem to you?

Otherwise, this thing seems pretty solid. No scratches, nice finish, doesn't look like it has been fired much. I will update on Saturday when I take it out to the range.

The finger on the trigger guard is normal, when removing the slide check to see it unloaded . remove mag, pull trigger. pull back a little on the slide and down on the locking block tabs , let go of the slide and it should come off with no problem.

First off, excellent trade deal. You came out ahead in that one.

It's not quite recommended, but it's not terribly uncommon. The grip seems to work for some people. It's awkward and uncomfortable for me, but it's really personal preference.

World champion shooter, Jerry Miculek has a great video on how to get started with good pistol shooting fundamentals. View it here.

Roughedge outlined the proper take-down procedure.

- Removed magazine
- Ensure chamber is unloaded.
- Ensure it's unloaded again.
- Point in a safe direction.
- Pull the trigger.
- Wrapping your fingers around the slide with your thumb around the tang, lightly squeeze to retract the slide very slightly - just enough to relieve the pressure on the slide lock.
- Pull down on the slide lock on both sides and let go of the slide. This should allow the barrel cam to bass the lock.
- The slide should pull right off now.

It can be a little tricky at first, but it will become second nature in short order.

Congrats on the pistol. Enjoy!
