glock 20 to 21 (10mm-.45) conversion?

I am considering buying a complete, used Glock 21 slide to attach to my existing G20 frame, to result in a complete .45 pistol. I realize I would have to change mags.

Are there any aspects to this swap slide arrangement that I need to consider, ie, Gen 1-2-3 type issues. My G20 frame is older, no finger grooves. I am not certain of the generation for the G21 slide assembly that is for sale, only seen pics, but it is not marked Gen4.

I did it, not long ago. And it worked fine. In fact it worked so well I had to get another frame to put under the G21 slide. So I ended up buying a slightly overpriced G20 on the installment plan :p

Both came from Glockmeister and the slide was not used, at least not that I could tell. Neither was the frame. The barrel and the slide and the frame each have their own serial number and they certainly do not match :D

With my Eyeballs, Mark I there is no internal difference between the G20 SF frame which is several years old, and the newer SF frame which I just bought to use with the G21 slide. I guess that is another way of saying that the ejectors seemed to be the same.

Your older, non-SF G20 frame may be different from newer ones, but I think you will find the used slide works just fine. Best to go some specialized Glock forum and search around. There has probably been a long thread on that already.

10mm conversion

Hey, don't get me wrong, I like the 10mm/G20, and have sung its praises on more than one occassion in these forums. And I load for the 10mm, so keeping one running is not an issue....for a while anyhow.

But for several reasons, none which have to do with performance, I'm thinking about this swap.
1) I have a fair quantity of loaded and factory .45 acp ammo on hand, along with much brass.
2) I can shoot a G21 conversion in "Heavy Metal" for 3gun, if I can get to a match, and have an edge over my 8+1 SIG, despite my attachment to the SIG.
3) I can shoot the G21 conversion, anytime and anywhere I please, and not have to hunt for expensive 10mm brass, while being belittled by my pals.

Just to cloud the water, I have thought about getting a .40 SW conversion barrel. I would not have to change mags with the 10mm, and could get the big frame in use less expensively. But I do not load much .40SW, and am not really a fan of the ctg. And I could not get it in "heavy metal" division.

Now, .50GI, exotic, big, but I would go nuts hunting single pieces of brass.
But I like your style.

All sound like great reasons........To buy another Glock!
Just curious, what is the difference in the cost of the conversion vs buying a G21.
Maybe just me, but I'd rather add another complete gun than a box of parts.:D

$$$$$$

Depending on the condition, it appears from my granted, "limited" research, that a used G21 slide, complete with barrel, can start at $200. I've uncovered two such examples. A new slide assembly, $350 and up.

That's about $250-$350 savings over a second gun, new or used. 'Course you'd have to buy mags.

Aside, a new .40 conversion barrel runs about $100.
