Glock 20 or Colt Delta Elite....

I wanna be able to shoot full power 10mm loads, the 1350 fps stuff, not the watered down 40 S&W style crud.

I dont want any kabooms.

Which of these two is the safest, strongest, and longest lasting?

Beats me :D I just bought one of each last week.. wheeeeeee! The Delta Elit is a much nicer, much smaller gun...but then you can't stuff 15 rounds into the magazine either. I've only put mid range stuff through mine and they are both sweeet.

Not much help am I? :D

No comparison.....The G20 will still be shooting long after the Colt has been turned into beer cans! :p

Like the Colt, hard to hold on to though and I think the price is higher than a Glock.

Shot the Colt and did not like the feel at all, also couldn't hit well with it (may have been me that day, but the Gold Cup was fine).

Have a G-20 and love it. Seen range guns that have been shot hard for years and they have held up well, also you have twice the rounds of a Colt.

If you get the 20 I would buy the extended barrel, get the little extra out of the round that you can.

I have both. The Colt will need a couple modifications to handle a steady diet of full power loads, but it's not too bad - just a 22 or 24 lb recoil spring, and probably a new guide rod. The Glock can handle it all stock, but I still put in a stiffer recoil spring. The Colt is much nicer to look at, the Glock won't rust. My Colt is more accurate, the Glock holds 15+1 (for a fee). It's a tough choice. 10mm is a good cartridge against kabooms, but the Glock still has the big 6 o' opening. Colt has better case suppport.

I'm thinking you get the Glock, and buy the Colt later.

I own both too...

... and think the Colt Delta Elite is definitely UNDERrated. Even before I had it customized it was one of the best guns I've owned, period (and that includes SigSauers, Glocks and Kimbers among others). Contrary to Colt mythology, it was a very tight, accurate and reliable gun. The ergonomics are fantastic and the stock triggers are still better than 90% of the guns out there. They are not excessively fragile either, contrary to popular myth, though spending $40 to replace the recoil setup with a steel guide rod and 24lb Wolff spring is a good idea and should make it last pretty much forever. Of course, if you have the inclination you can have a hot-s*it gunsmith like Dane Burns customize your Delta Elite into an uber-pistol. Unless you are willing to spend $100 a pop to get pre-ban 15 rounders, you only give up 1 round to the Glock (9 vs 10) with a much better grip shape. Don't like rust? Get stainless steel. And of course they are just so darn pretty... :D

However, if your hands are big enough the Glock 20 is probably a better choice for a first pistol. It will probably be cheaper than a Delta Elite ($500 vs $600-800) and all 4 Glocks I've owned were alarmingly close to 100% reliable with who knows how many rounds put through them. A Delta Elite can be just as reliable, but will probably be more finicky about which hollowpoints it will & won't work with (e.g. mine won't feed Pro Load 155gr Gold Dots, but is literally 100% with everything else including their 180gr Gold Dots and Silvertips). My Glock 20C is very accurate and has a pretty decent trigger too. And if you spring for the hi-caps 15 rounds of 10mm power is nothing to sneeze at.

Tough call, I'm happy with both.

You will never be sorry you bought a Colt and it will be something in future generations. A Glock is a good pistol but only a Colt is a Colt.

I have two Deltas and have never regretted my decision.

I have seen two Delta Elite pistols that had been beaten into the ground by full house 10mm loads, even the one with a 24 pound recoil spring. Slide rails and breach faces take the worst of it. Nice looking paper weights that can be past on for generations to hold down loose targets that my Glock 20 will still be shooting at.:p

I would be interested in the colt if it was my money. The trigger is much much better and it has personality beyond a container meant to hold leftovers. The heavy mainspring and recoil rod will help keep the colt in one piece. The grip angle on the colt will fit most perfectly ... where the glock will forever have that fat grip and strange trigger pull.

The original 10mm ammo was 200 grain. If you are talking about launching a 200 grain bullet at 1350fps, I think you might want to rethink that.

There's a reason that you can't buy that ammo from the factory these days.

I bought my G20 in '91, and the only change I've made was to replace the rear fixed sight with an adjustable model. So far, everybody here suggests the Colt should have a new recoil setup. If true, the Glock is better off to start. BUT...not everyone has hands that can grasp a G20, whereas most anyone can use a Colt. It probably comes down more to which one appeals to you, rather than one really being "better" than the other.

I think he means 155gr bullets at 1350 FPS (e.g. Pro Load's current stuff).

FWIW, people have posted load data for 220gr bullets clocking over 1300 FPS from 6" barrels with supposedly no signs of excess pressure... :o

I own a G20 and have shot several Delta's.

They rattled like cans and the workmanship just wasn't there for the additional monies.

Where is colt-Talk? I don't see very many accessories for the CDE but you can buy supported aftermarket barrels for the Glock 20 and shoot 10mm, 40SW, and 357 SIG through it.

Buy them both if you just cashed in your stock options. But if you're looking for a non-G20 10mm gun, get the EAA Witness. heck, while you're looking, check out the SW 1006 or get a Star Megastar, the real heavy duty 10mm gun factory with hi caps.

The CDE is overpriced. Pre-ban AR-15 yes. Colt Python yes. CDE - no.

I bought one of the first Delta Elites, and have thoroughly enjoyed it--hot loads and all. However, the majority of my handgunning has always been with mid-range loads. I guess it's 10:1 or more for the lighter loads.

I've got no "gun" problems with the Glock, but my hand is happier with the Colt, so that's pretty much the end of the story. And, I like the Colt from an aesthetic standpoint.

I've always figured that the less wear and tear on a self-defense critter, the better. So, what a great excuse to have "just practice" guns!

:), Art

Man, some people are just determined to knee-jerk bash Colts when they don't know what they are talking about. :D

Obvious point: since a Delta Elite takes 99% of the aftermarket 1911 goodies (and you can order the rest from Brownells) it is about a trillion times more customizable than a Glock. Hell, all you had to do was LOOK AT THE HUMUNGOUS PICTURE OF A CUSTOM DELTA ELITE I POSTED!!!

Oh yeah, Delta Elites actually have adequate chamber support... and can shoot unjacketed bullets... and have better ergonomics than a bar of soap... and don't have squishy triggers... etc., etc., etc.. And if you shake my Delta Elite it won't rattle (and never did).

Final comment: since you can get a blued Delta Elite for as little as $550, I don't see how they are soooooooo much more expensive than a $500 Glock... [$550-500= $50] :p

"Little hands syndrome"- it's why I got rid of my G21. I also rid myself of my '20 slide and barrel. :(

I like the way the 1911A1's look, but currently have 2 Glocks...and no 1911's.

I would *really* like Glock to make a full-size, single-stack 10mm! Yeah, c'mon.
