Glock 20 Experiences... and problems

I recently acquired a G20, and took it out for a range-test today.

I bought this gun used, but it is LNIB, and had never been fired (until today) as far as I can tell.

I put a total of 300 rounds thru it today. 150 of these were Georgia Arms 155 g Gold Dots loaded to 1345 fps, the other 150 were Georgia Arms 180 g Gold Dots loaded to 1150 fps.

For those of you not familiar with Georgia Arms, its in general good stuff, on par with (or perhaps even better than) the bigger companies, and I have not had any failures that I would attribute to the ammo.

Overall, the G20 shot OK, not super accurate, but definitely "combat accurate". Also, this was my first time shooting 10mm, so my lack of familiarity with the round might explain why I didnt shoot it as well as other rounds. Recoil wasnt bad with either of the 2 loads. The lighter, faster round recoiled the worst, but I am used to shooting everything up to and including 44 mag, so even this wasnt bad.

Now, heres the problem. Occasional failures to fully eject. This happened on rounds 9, 90, 255, 256, and 280. The spent casing would be extracted from the chamber, but fail to clear the gun before the slide closed. It didnt "stove-pipe", it just got stuck horizontally. Pulling back on the slide a tad allowed the case to fall on out.

Overall I like the gun, and the cartridge, but 5 stoppages in 300 rounds isnt too good. (I am used to shooting 1911s, which, as everyone knows, never jam).

I want to work this problem out.

I dont rule out the possiblity I might have been limp-wristing, especially towards the end (300 rounds of 10mm in 92 degree heat was a little tiring). Maybe my gun doesnt like Gold-Dots, so I will try something else next time. Also, since this gun was never shot before, maybe it just needs break in time.

It doesnt seem to me that this is an extractor issue, since the spent case did get fully extracted, it just didnt clear the gun before the slide closed, but maybe I dont know what I am talking about.

Would a different recoil spring help with this?

Any ideas or comments are appreciated.

There's a few threads over in GlockTalk in the 10Ring about this very issue. Seems like you're not the only one that has seen this. A few guys were talking about the need to upgrade the ejector.

It might be an ammo related problem. Does this happen with factory loads like CCI Blazer?

Don't know how prevalent this is. My G29 has been flawless so far.

Hope you work it out! Please keep us informed.

I recently bought a G20 and a friend bought a G20C. I had zero FTF or FTE, but he's had a few FTE with his G20C. After a few more rounds in his gun, 100+, it appears to be functioning fine now. Apparently, it takes some guns a bit longer than others to break in properly. I put a 22# recoil spring and SS guide rod in mine and it tames the guns recoil a bit. The gun doesn't toss the empties as far either. I don't like the plastic guide rod anyway. SamC

My older G20 had problems with erratic ejection and an occasional failure to eject. The problem was the 4340 ejector. I sent it to Glock for the extractor/ejector upgrade and it's functioned beautifully since then. IIRC the new ejector is marked 8196.
