Glock 19 small enough for deep cover?

I usually carry a Ruger P94 in a strong-side IWB from Kramer Leather with an untucked, unbuttoned long sleeve shirt over top and conceal quite nicely. However, I'm looking for something to carry in a 'Thunderwear' kind of holster for deep(er) cover without sacrificing much in the way of all those good things in a personal defense pistol. Basically, I need something that I can wear underneath a khaki/polo shirt outfit (that's what I plan on conducting subject interviews at work with), and those holsters that sit over your crotch seem to be fairly inconspicuous.

I've decided to go with a DAO weapon since if I'm in deeper cover, it'll take longer to get to the weapon, giving me less time for finding and working the safety.

Glocks seem to be the thing to go with for reliability and combat accuracy. I'd like to go with 9X19 for capacity and am wondering if the Glock 19 is small enough to carry in such a fashion, or would I be better suited going with a Glock 26 and adding the pinky spur to the magazine?

The smallest deep concealment 9mm is the Kahr MK9. But it is as heavy as the G19 and G26. But it is very thin and very small.

I have the G19 but for deep conceament, I would go with the MK9 over the G26. The disadvantage of the MK9 is it is 7+1 rounds verses 10+1 for the G26.

I'd go with the G19 and hi-caps. For deep cover, the weight and size of the 19 is hard to beat. And, dependability is a factor which is best in Glock or Makarov. From my experience with all of the popular and not so popular, I'd go with the G19 and my son's Kahr is for sale -- he's gone back to the G19, having had them all.

I have tried the Thunderwear (I actually got the Smart Carry "Thunderbelt" from www.smartcarry.com) with my Glock 19. It works quite well. In fact I think the G19 conceals better this way than even the G26 because the G19 rides better.

The G26 prints a bit MORE than the G19 because the end of the short fat handle prints right in the middle of your crotch. Your experience may vary, but I found that the G19 with the longer handle prints less conspicuously because the end of the handle is more up by my belt and pocket where the bulge is less noticable.

The Glock 19 is a little thick though. If you want to really conceal it and be really comfortable, get a Kahr polymer series P9 pr P40. the Kahr polymer is lighter and the handle MUCH slimmer than the Glock and is really perfect for the Smart Carry crotch holster.

The Glock 19 works, but the Kahr is a lot better. If you really are sold on carrying the Glock 19 though, then it is entirely possible to conceal it in this fashion.

I actually carry a full size 1911 in my Smart Carry holster now. The 1911 is so slim that it works very well.

That's one (another) thing that the 1911's do well...they're so slim it's easy to tuck your cannon away ;)

So tell me about Kahr arms then--I've got no practical experience with them. Are they just as reliable/accurate/durable/etc?

Depends on what your meaning of "Deep Cover" is. To me "Deep Cover" means hiding your pistol discreetly enough that you can avoid having it detected by a casual pat search.

Unless you have a fairly long torso, a crotch holster like the Thunderwear won't allow you to carry a G19 without looking like John Travolta with a sock stuck in his crotch on the set of Saturday Night Fever. :D

Deep Concealement options would be something like the Kel Tec P32.

If you just want a smaller gun that is easier to hide and won't print as bad as the Ruger, then the G19 is a good choice. Again..much depends upon your individual body build. Some folks can make a 1911 dissapear and still be able to walk around and not mimic Frankenstein with a bad case of arthritis..others can't. If you can get the grip section to dissapear on any pistol, you have 90 percent of the concealement problem licked.

I personally found the G27 easier to conceal. I carried one for over 3 years in the heat of Oklahoma. If you can hide a bar of Irish Spring deoderant soap, then you can hide a G26/27.

A G19 for deep concealment? Nah, I don't think so. I have a G23 and love it but it is no deep concealment gun. Belt holster or fanny pack, its great but in Thunderwear? I don't want a mid-size auto riding in my crotch. Ouch! If you want deep concealment buy a gun made for it like the P32, NAA, Seecamp or such. Now, as for the 1911 as a deep concealment gun, what are you guys smokin? I'm a big 1911 fan but I ain't shovin one down the front of my pants. :)

Teufelhunden,

I carried a Kahr P 40 in a smartcarry holster for a while with no problems, wearing khakis and a polo.

The G 19 is about the same size as my Steyr M40 and I've tried it in the crotch holster and its too big. You start to get that John Trovolta thing going as someone said.

If you like Glocks try the 26. I would try to wear one first before buying. This doesn't take long, just try it on and you can pretty much tell with a quick look in the mirror. I am now looking for another deep concealment gun and tried the Sig 239 this way and found it doesn't work either.

Remember your the only one who can see the grip in the pleat, I promise.

Glock 19 + smartcarry + bluejeans = Probably not
Glock 19 + smartcarry + pleated pants = Maybe

Glock 26 + smartcarry + bluejeans = Maybe
Glock 26 + smartcarry + pleated pants = Probably

Micro Kahr+ smartcarry + bluejeans = Probably
Micro Kahr + smartcarry + pleated pants = Definitely

As you can see, there is a direct relation between pants size/pistol size/  size... :D

I'm sorry, it's been a rough day.
