Glock 19 or HK USP9c

I'm looking to make my next handgun purchase in the next couple of months. I'm debating between the Glock 19 and the HK USP9 compact, and to a lesser extent a Springfield MilSpec 1911. I would really appreciate any advice and comments anyone could lend about any of these pistols. It would be for home defense and range use. Thanks.

Well, the Glock is cheaper (just paid less then $400.00 for a 19C model). MSRP is about $600.00, my dealer sells them for around $500.00 but is having trouble getting them. I've read this on other sites.
If you're not going to carry, you might want to consider getting a 17L (target model) with an extra standard 17 slide. I'd bought a 17L many years ago, and a standard 17 slide about 5 years ago...same lower end..the only thing about the 17L slide is the sights just aren't that great. But they're replaceble.
And even if you DO decide to carry, the 17 isn't THAT big.

I cannot say it's tougher then an HK, but Glocks are one tough gun (at least the 9mm).

The best thing to do is find a place that rents out the handguns you are interested in and try them all out. Te second best thing is to handle each one and buy the one that feels the most comfortable in YOUR hand.

I've noticed that the Glock feels a bit chunky and awkward in my hands (I have small hands) where the HK felt much better (slimmer). This is stricly MY observation and may or may not apply to you. (I have a HK USP9C by the way).

JMB,
Shot a G19 extensively at a range one time and I thought it was ok. I'm not a huge fan of the trigger or trigger pull. I have a USP 9 fullsize that's extremely accurate. If it was me I would spend the extra cash if you have it and go with the USP! It has a fully supported chamber that the Glock doesn't have and you can get it modified to any sort of action/variant that you want. Only downsize other than the price is that HK highcaps are insanely expensive! $100 or more.

I think the HKs feel top heavy but then I just took a glock armorors course and am in the market for a model 19 myself. The glocks are simple and durable beyond measure.

I recently traded in a HK Compact 9 in order to purchase a 19.

In retrospect I wish I had hung on to the HK and just bought a 19. The HK is a very nice piece, I got it for short money and it is comfortable to carry. However I hated the sights, felt it had way to much muzzle flip for a 9mm, and I swear I could feel the grip handle actually flex in my hand when the gun fired.

Other than that I still wish I had the gun. Oh the 19 is an excellent gun for CCW and self defense :)
