A friend suggested he'd sell his G19 with pre-ban 17 mag. I haven' seen it yet, but am interested... everything equal.

What range would you suggest my offer to be??

Thanks.

It depends on what generation Glock it is, and if it has night sights or not.

A new Glock 19 without night sights and two 10-round mags should be about $440. A pre-ban magazine should be $70 - $90, depending on condition and FML/DF or NFML/NDF.

I'd say $350 might be a starting point for the pistol, and then factor in what the mag is worth.

I paid $389 for a 19C which came with one standard capacity and one 10 round magazine.
This was in PA about two years ago.

I just picked up a traded in Glock 19 with two hi-cap mags that came from a police trade-in program. The pistol had substantial holster scuffing but shoots perfectly of course. $400 is what I paid which I think is good with two mags that often cost $75 each alone.

I wanted the older, used, standard double stack hi-cap mag equipped pistol, just to eliminate that after-ban pistol with pre-ban magazine situation. It's old style of course. I love it.

What situation are you referring to? If you are worried about possession of a preban mag and a pistol made after 9/94, don't. There is nothing illegal about it as long as the magazine is truely preban. If you are still worried about it, call the ATF tech branch and request written proof.

To answer Ironbarr's question, I'd say about $450.

Thanks Sig,

I've not been to any of the ATF meetings in a couple of years and I've heard three versions of this from different folks, all of whom I trust, so saving money and being certain were my decisions.

I'm trying to find a copy of a written statement for you, but I'm having a hard time finding it. Rest assured, the mags are the only thing restricted, not the pistol you put them in.

Here's an online link to a letter written to the ATF tech branch and their reply: http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/user/wbardwel/public/nfalist/atf_letter26.txt

In this letter, the question was asked in reference to using a preban magazine in a postban imported rifle. The same applies to pistols, this is just a different example (rifle).

A large capacity magazine having a capacity of more than 10 rounds can be used in any semiautomatic rifle, provided that the magazine was lawfully possessed [manufactured] prior to September 14, 1994. It is unlawful for an individual to possess or transfer a large capacity magazine which was manufactured after September 13, 1994.

Bottom line is there are no restrictions on which firearms are allowed to accept "large-capacity magazines". Anyone who tells you otherwise is flat out wrong. I urge you to contact the tech branch if you want a written and signed answer.
