Glock 19, no Walther P99, no SigPro errr USP Compact - heeeeelp

You'd think I could decide what I want, I have after all been waiting and researching my choice for 3 years, so can I, nope, haven't got a clue.

Bought a Makarov, love it, maybe even to the point of getting another, but I want a high quality modern pistol.

One minute it's the Glock 23 (100 rounds loved it), then the 19 (hey the ammo is cheaper and they don't blow up), then the P239 (feels so right with a Hogue grip) or the SigPro (just plain nice), the USP compact (pure quality) is always there in the shadows, so is the Beretta Cougar. Favorite is currently the Walther P99, but only just.

Someone tell me why they make SO many nice pistols, and why I am hopeless at choosing between them.

It's like trying to buy a new car Mike, too much to select from. Try the Glock next. They hold up well, and you won't loose a lot if you don't like it and want to sell it. I try to get different types of guns to shoot. Try not to get into a rut by getting all of same type .I wound up with a collection of ALL carry guns at one time..Didn't know which one to carry, and couldn't decide what guns to take to the range to shoot. Have fun. Buy what you can afford to shoot often..

Huh?

You'd think I could decide what I want, I have after all been waiting and researching my choice for 3 years, so can I, nope, haven't got a clue.

I hope you don't take that long to oder from a menu. :) In three years one of my buddies has gone from a G19 to CZ to P226 to G19 to Beretta to P228 to CZ Compact and back to G23. So far he's had fun on his round the world and back to Glock trip.

What is it going to be used for? Range gun, competition shooting, carry? All of the above? Is ammo cost a factor? Is the amount of available mods/add ons important? If we're talking just generalities/plinking here, that makes it harder and easier.

Personally, I'd throw my vote for the P99. And no, I'm not a Glock hater. Not overly crazy about Sigs though. I was actually dead set on getting a USP myself as a first handgun untill I handled a P99. The comfort and fit of the standard grip was just......right. But I've also ben accused of delusions of grandeur brought on by insanity, so YMMV.

To answer your problem is simple....you are using the wrong perspective. View not yourself as choosing between them. View yourself as choosing which to buy FIRST!

my suggestion would be to take 'em all out for a test drive. find a range that rents, and shoot 'em all. i have the p99 myself and it's well worth getting one. just make sure that it's a german proofed one. s&w has a version out that in my opinion is a cheap knock off. but that's just me.

Definately get the P99.....errr the Glock 19.......man that H&K USPc is nice......those Sig P228's sure do feel good in the hand.
How about this, the coolness factor of James Bonds P99, the grip of a P228, the reliability of a Glock, and the snob appeal of a H&K. All rolled into one, with the price of a Lorcin. :D come to daddy!!!

HardCase makes a good point. It's not a matter of which one, but a matter of which one first. My first gun was a Beretta. Eventually picked up the Glock 23, Walther P99, Sig 229, Para P13.45, HK USPc, and a few others. You can't go wrong with any of them. Don't worry too much about which one is the best. Just buy one, and then immediately start saving for the next one. The grass is always greener on the other side, and as soon as you buy that P99, that USP is gonna seem so sweet. Eventually, you'll have them all, and only then will you have achieved true happiness.

There sure is...

...a glut of very competent autoloaders on the market today, isn't there?

How important are the following features to you?

1) Weight
2) Size
3) Width
4) Availability of non-gelded mags
5) Trigger pull (weight, length and smoothness)
6) Availability of accessories
7) "snob appeal", for lack of a better term
8) When are you going to shoot my roommate's Enfield or my little brother's Enfield .38/200?

"snob appeal"???

I Resemble That Remark :D

For the longest time Walther's have had that reputation for being a snob gun. So Yup, that's me.....I guess. (Although I don't feel like a snob  )

My choice P99

P99 over and out

Get the one on sale, then the one that shoots best for ya, then the one that fits your hand best, then finally get the last one on that list because you already own the others...then make another list ;)

In Maryland there is no concealed carry, but I won't let that stop me from buying compacts or even pocket sized guns like the P32.

I'd hoped that just one gun would "talk" to me, but they all shout at me.

Tamara - You keep dangling that Webley and I'll keep jumping. One of these days we may just get together, but judging by the plaintive calls for your company (and bikini photos  ) that I'm seeing over in General, I'm at the end of a very long line.

When I do make my selection, I'll probably be too old and weak to rack the slide.
