I love .45s, but I'm going to buy a 9mm for summer carry and for my girlfriend to have for home self-defense while I'm at work. After much research I am torn between the Glock 19 and the Walther P99 AS. I love the way each of them shoots and feels in the hand. My girlfriend agrees with me so I am really torn as I don't have money for both at the time. I don"t mind that the Walther is about 100 more than the Glock. What are your thoughts and impressions of these two pistols? They are roughly the same size and equal 15 round magazine capacity. I do carry an HK USP .45 full-size so the magazine release lever is similiar to the Walther. But I have more experience with Glocks. I know only I can know which would be best for me in the end, but your opinions are valued and could help me in my decision. Thanks!

G19 hands down(carrying mine 2 years now), I have a friend who has the PPS, it has that little backstrap thingy, which if you remove can disable the gun. I do not know if the Walther P99 has it or not. NOT A FAN OF IT. IMO more dangerous than a IL on a S&W J frame. Your GF not working or something?

The next best thing to do is see if you can rent them and see which one you can shoot better.

My girlfriend and I usually end up with opposite shifts so she is alone at night a lot. I have fired both of these guns and love them each. I didn't notice any difference in my accuracy with them. It is a tough choice because they seem to have a lot of the same appeal to me even though they are different. But hearing your opinion on the Glock 19 is a very helpful start to help me off this fence. Thanks for your input!

Welcome here, I have shot about 600 rounds through my Glock and it has been my EDC gun. I only had a few problems to start with due to the springs when the Gen 4 model came out(Glock sent me new ones after I called). But thats not a problem now I hear, they are shipping them with the newer springs(fixed version)

I would go with what ever you like better.

Personally if I had to do it over again, I choice the Glock, the magazines are cheaper, you can use G17 G19 and 33 round magazines in it.

I really don't like the take down on a Walther as I own a Walther P-22 and I hate the lock on the side, where you can lock your gun. I personally think a duty/self defence gun should have no LOCKS able to disable it on it.

This would include a Walther, Esp the Walther PPS with the backstrap that decocks the gun.

S&W J frames with Internal lock that can lock the mech up and not let you fire.

A few others I am not listing atm its almost 3 am.

You want a fool proof gun (Glock/Revolver style) that you cannot turn the lock on and muck every thing up by mistake some how.
