GLOCK 17 v. 19

I am looking to add another 9mm. CCW and high-caps are not an issue, is one "better" than the other or is it a matter of which fits best. Is there any difference in felt recoil between the two. Is the 17 quicker on follow up shots because of the larger size.

Thanks for the input.

They both good! As strange as it sounds, I find that the SMALLER Glocks recoil less than the larger Glocks. I can't explain why, but my G26 is seems to recoil a little less than the G19, and the G19 recoils a little less than the G17. I prefer the grip of the 19 over the 17, and I also shoot the 19 better than the 17. Your results may very though, which is why you need to try them on for size yourself. ;)

Just a personal preference thing in this case. I'd choose the G19 since it is smaller and still holds 16 rounds (comparable to most other full-sized 9mm pistols).

If it makes you feel any better, the G17 and G19 are the two most politically incorrect pistols in the world. That's reason enough to buy them.:)

What Blades67 said. In this case, there is no difference other than size to compare. The guns are both proven perfomers and are nearly identical. Go with the one which fits YOU. I have large hands, don't carry, and nearly always go full size. I get the benefit of a longer barrel in the process which is supposed to improve your accuracy...but you'd never know it watching me shoot!

I own both a 17 and a 19 Glock and I too prefer the 19 over its larger brother. The 19 is the perfect size, just like the Commander is just the right size in a 1911...7th

What blades67 said. It's a matter of your choice. I have a 23 (same size as 19), and I also trained on the model 17 in police academy. I liked them both. I prefer the smaller frame for concealment. I am currently using the 23 for an overt carry duty gun too, and it fits into the scheme of things fine. Great gun.

Both are great weapons and you might want to also include the G34. I've always been a fan of the G17L, but never could find one really affordable. All the dealers wanted an arm and a leg for one where I lived. I've seen the G34's for very reasonable prices, so that will definitely be my next 9mm project.

The only issue with me was the grip size. The G17 was to big!!! I have a G19. Both have the same internals, so it should boil down to whatever fits!!

I have 17/19 & 22/23 and prefer the full size 17 or 22 for concealed carry. I find the grip on the compact a little too short when I present from holster. The full size frame guides my hand up to a secure hold without having to readjust after clearing the holster. I have carried the full size concealed for 10 years now with no trouble at all.
P>S> remember that in a life threatening situation you will have apprx. 1second to make your decision and go though the mechanics of the draw and fire. It better be right the first time. Too many people just put the gun in their hand and see if it is comfortable. Assume a preferred stance with the gun holstered and do a speed draw as if being attacked. If the gun is comfortable in hand and points naturally go with it.

I like as long a sight radius as possible; that's why I carry a 17L.

I think the G19 and G23 are just about the perfect size for a "do-everything" pistol. Nothing wrong with a G17, but the G19 is a little asier to conceal while still fitting the hand. I'll give up two rounds for that.

The 19 has a much more natural point for me than the 17. I hit far too high up on the target unless I unlock my wrist to point 'down' with the 17, as in using the sights.
