Glock 17 should? or should not?

I have a chance to purchase G17 for $600. It's in mint condition and comes with a 10rd mag. It has a very nice laser system, the laser is very small, attached to the front of the trigger guard by 4 hex screws, which is also used for adjustment for the laser. The laser is activated by a pressure pad located in the back of the glock, right where between your thumb and index finger. There are no exposed wires and the battery is ion-litium rechargable. So, with the laser and all, what do you think?

I like the idea of not fumbling around in the dark to activate a laser. Though I think I don't need a laser, the gun would be good for my wife, if she would ever have to use (God forbid). I have other 9s, do I need the G17?

I think it's a good price, but is it really needed?

It's a third Gen, but I won't be using the rail due to the laser

I knoe glocks are nice, but these are the other 9's I have:
Kahr K9
Browning Hipower
Beretta 92fs
sig p228

What the hell, go for it. See if you can't talk that price down a little bit, though. I don't have much (any) experience with "lasers" and I use a shotgun for HD, but to each their own.

I love all of these threads saying "should I get it." You know you are going to anyways :D

It is always a good thing to add another firearm to the stockpile.

You MUST check out the Walther P99 before you consider getting the Glock. Not that you won't like the G17. You just need to have an adequate platform on which to base your Glock decisions.

Have both. Love both. But the edge goes to the Walther.

My G17 goes bang every time. Its 100% faithful. I say get it! When its go time you want an ugly stick by your side. I'm not much for lasers but you might like it.

BTW, what gen is it?

Price seems high, but many would argue that the Glock 17 is the most reliable Glock.

Personally, I'm not that big on lasers.

Glock nines are the best nines IMO.The laser isnt going to stay adjusted though!I would try to work your friend down on price!Take a look at the G19 first though. ;)

I carry a Glock 17. They are reliable. They have wide grips. Mine feels like gripping a 2 by 4. Also because of the wide grip I might not have propper trigger reach which means I might not ever get good trigger contol. Which means I wont be able to accuratly shoot this gun like others. Now you mentioned your wife. Will this pistol fit her hand? You both need to test fire a third gen Glock 17 to see if you like them. Do you want a laser? Why buy a pistol with something you don't want? Just because a pistol has a good reputation doesn't mean that pistol will work for you.

Love the G-17 but $600 for one with a ten round mag sounds waaay high. I bought a brand new G-22 about a year ago for $470 out the door.

Laser doesn't add much for me. Most people end up considering them fancy toys and not much else. Your Sig 228 sounds like a good match for the wife though if she likes it.

$600 seems really high for a used Glock w/ one 10 round mag. As for the laser...my experience has shown that lasers require alot of TLC; always seem to work themselves loose.
I run into LNIB Glocks for $400-$450 fairly frequently...either keep looking or start negotiating.

I bought a Glock 21 with two 13 round magazines for $300 several years back, so I can't see a used Glock with a cheap laser bolted onto it being worth more than $400 or so. If you were getting some 17 round factory magazines, I'd have a different viewpoint, but the pistol isn't worth that, and IMO the laser on the triggerguard is worthless.

You should I would try to talk him down some though. But the G17 is a excellent gun.. I love mine..

for practice, the G17 is very accurate with the cheap Blazer 9mm ammo.

Not sure about the laser though.

I think you guys just talked him out of a pretty good deal.

From the way he described it, that wasn't a bolt on laser, that was the tiny laser that fits entirely on the front of the trigger guard. The batteries are stowed in the backstrap and the switch is made to look integral to the gun.

If you like lasers, that's about the nicest all-around setup you can get for the Glocks. It's more adjustable (for POI) than the guiderod lasers and almost as compact.

I'm not a laser guy either, but I think that setup would increase the value of a Glock by more than $200.

JohnKsa is right, the laser system is as he described, it's not a crimson trace or a lasermax. The owner whom is selling this piece said that he had to send the gun in to have it done and that it cost him close to $500 just for the laser.

I guess I just have to walk away, though I think it's a really good deal, though it is very tempting due to the price.

Pros of a laser on this gun (mostly in a defensive role) :
no switch to turn on in the dark (grab, point and shoot)
Easy for wife to point and shoot in an emergency
intemidate the intruder

Cons in offensive role:
gives away your position
cannot mount flashlight

Then again, I have a Mossberg 590A 12 gauge 8 shot for the defensive role position.

I guess, for it, it's hard to pass up on a good deal, I hate to be one of those guys whom would say, "I should da..... " rarely do I pass up, but this to me it is a border line "should da"

the laser your describeing sounds like the Aro-Tek LAW 2000/2010 system. They are indead about 500 bucks installed. I say jump on it.

I agree with others, that to me sounds kinda high to me also. Went to a gun show last weekend a saw a brand new 17's for around $459-$469. I'd scrap the lazer idea and save the money for ammo and maybe a good set of night sights.
