Glock 17 or Sig P226?

Hi I'm looking into purchasing a handgun. At first I was convinced that the Glock was the way to go, but then I heard about Sig handguns.
First of all, I'm either going to go with a 9mm or a .40S&W caliber gun, depending on what I like to shoot the best.

So, what are your thoughts on which is a better handgun for personal defense, the Glock 17 or the Sig P226?

And also which one is better the Glock 22 or the Sig P226 .40 caliber version?

PERSONAL PREFERENCE -- MY HAND IS DIFFERENT FROM YOURS

Suggest correct Glock model is M17; not interested in SIGs.

How about first you handle both then tell us which one you liked?

Suggest worrying about gun, not caliber.

Try both out. Your hands will tell you which one feels & shoot the best for you. They both shoot & carry dfferently.

Unless you plan on living in arctic conditions where a polymer frame won't freeze-up when metal will fail you, they're both about as dependable as you'll ever need.

Personal defense as in carry or home defense?

For carry, I'd go with the Glock for size and ease of maintainance. For home defense it's a matter of which one I find the best deal on. :D

I'm with WESHOOT2 in that I'd say it's more important to pick a gun that fits and don't worry about caliber as long as it's 9MM/.38Spcl or above. Chances are, if you have to shoot someone, they won't know the difference even down to .380/.32 though.

It's a matter of personal choice here. Both guns are super pistols you can't go wrong with either one. I do think that the Glock is the stronger of the two and the more user friendly especially if your left handed. No bells or wistles on the glock just a strong stright forward handgun. Glock is my choice.

Either one is a great choice,

but I prefer SIG'S.:D With that said, cast my vote
for the P226; as all the Navy Seal Teams can't be
wrong.:)

Buy both. Get the P226 first, because it is the better pistol:p, then get a G17 when the piggy bank is full again. :D

Have owned both in the past and...

never had a problem with either one...The 226 holds 15rnds while the Glock holds 17...Both are pretty tough but the Glock is lighter and will probably take more abuse...Most Sig owners do want to get a scratch on their gun...I thought my old 226 was alot more accurate then the Glock but then again most Sigs feel awesome in my hands...If you get a chance to try both of them out...do it...That way you can see what feels and shoots the best...I'm a firm believer in whatever gun feels the best...you will shoot the best...If you can swing it..Get both !!...Right now I have a West German 226 on layaway...I cant wait to pick it up !! :)

weshoot2 is right. PP.

Owned both of them and preferred the durability of the Glock. BUT the P226 was a tad more accurate for me. Just preferred the trigger of the Glock to the DA/SA trigger action of the Sig. And the rusting and premature wear on the slide was not the best on the Sig.

My favorite full-sized 9mm is the Glock 34.
