Glock 17 input

Well, I finally had the opportunity to try out a Glock 17. It fired all the ammo I could feed it. It was balenced and ergonomic.

My Problems with it were that the magazine (a 10 Round mag) Was nearly impossible to load to 10 rounds, had to load 9 and top off the mag. Its accuracy was decent, but not as praised. Its toughness was well deserved though

Overall, it was a very good weapon. It was what I expected to an extent, but wasn't anything to write home about.

If I were to give the Glock a letter Grade, it would be a B+. I guess its not for me, since the only other 9mm I've shot is the Browning Hi Power.

Any input or other expereinces would be most appreciated

I hate the 10 round G17 magazines, I had two of them. Tossed one in the trash when it jammed totally, and I couldn't free the follower, and put the other one in my "junk mag drawer". The gun is fine with the 17 round factory magazines, and 17 rounds fit in all of mine with no problem. FWIW, I also have a couple of Hi-Power's, an Inglis and a FEG. The HP being a SA pistol gets the nod for ease of shooting for me, but I like my Glocks too.

Greeting's chrismc1,

Then you need to test drive a Sig P226 and a P228!!!

Best Wishes,

MOLON LABE!!!

SIG P226

Could do that. Trying out all major 9mm pistols that can serve. The Glock is OK, but not that great, the Beretta 92F was good, Haven't done the SIG, The Ruger P89 was OK, Looking for one for $600.00, what started as a Walther only search has now expanded to other brands.

Well if it doesn't work for you why would you want any opinions on it???
Just curious cause this topice seems pointless.

Reasons why I want opinions

I could revisit the Glock. As far as the "upper eschelon" of pistols go, It is among the least expensive choices. So, I could do it for economic reasons.

The 10 round mags are not quite right to start with. A loaded 10 is difficult to seat and hard to load. The easiest way is lock the slide back, insert the loaded 10, and let the slide forward. You will find Glocks work perfect with the original hicaps... By the way, have you seen any Sig go over 150,000 rounds? Sigs have one flaw, the roll pin that is used to hold the breech face to the slide. The pin is only good for about 5,000 rounds, then it shears thru.

well the glock was never intended to be special except in its incredible durability and reliability.
it is a combat weapon.
not a tactical entry weapon,
not a match grade competition weapon,
a combat (oh **** im outa mags for my h&k g36!) weapon.
it suits its purpose more than adaquately.
when some guy is attacking you on the street, its a great weapon to have. it will almost always fire, and its simple to operate. i hate da/sa triggers. just me though.
would i use it as a tactical entry weapon, no.
that is a weapon that you surgically attack with.
not repress an attack(although it could easily).
if you had to make an ocular(sp?) crainial shot, to be honest i would not do it with a glock. a 1911, hell yeah. a fixed up or custom one that is.
its a defensive(i dont like that word but i hope everyone understands. i like counter offensive)tool.
if you want it to be a little more, get a bar-sto barrel, some heinie sights and get a trigger job(or 3.5lb. connector) and it might be able to do that. but remember the weapons purpose.
if i was back in the back of a humvee or lav again, id carry a pistol,
and i would carry a glock before a dawson tactical.
however, if i was on a swat team or just carrying on the street, id want the edge of a better mouse trap because it would make a bigger difference for most instances; give me an edge.
if im fighting guys with fals or aks, the difference between a glock and fbi pro model is mute. im fending them off and getting the **** out.
later

seems like all the glock post ban 10s are hard as hell to get that 10th round in.i had a g21 and man o man i just loaded 9 rounds.the 13 pre ban mag was a breeze to load to capacity.get you a hi cap at least 1 .

Glock ten round mags need the use of the mag loader. They do loosen up with time and use, but they do suck compared to the original17 rnd. mags.
