Glock 17 barrel advice

Guys, I have a glock 17 g2 that won't hit the broad side of a barn Ivan with multiple people shooting it from a gun rest. One shot can be 7" to the left, and the next shot might be 10" low and to the right regardless of the ammo used. I am assuming that the barrel needs to be replaced. I am looking for a decent barrel for it that won't break the bank. My glock 22 gen 3 is dead on. For that matter my hi point is far more accurate than the glock 17. Any advice would be appreciated.

Try Glock again...

If you feel up to it, you can go directly to their facility in Georgia. My brother in law did that with his glock, just showed up and asked them to look it over. Nothing wrong with it, just wanted to. They inspected and cleaned it up. They even gave him a set of backstraps, as it was a gen 4 and he did not have any. (It was a used pistol, that I got in a trade, and ended up giving to him for xmas)

Got a buddy with a G17? Try his barrel.

Ask around there are a lot of Glocks with aftermarket barrels, the originals on the shelf.

If you're friendly with a Glock dealer you could give them a call.

I bought an early Glock 29 Gen4 that came without grips. I didn't notice when I bought the gun. I called Glock myself and the guy was kind of a dick and blew me off. Told me I could order them online. I talked to the shop a few months later and theycalled Glock and I got a set free of charge in less than a week.

I emailed glock am hour or so ago. I emailed them once before and didn't receive a response. This time they have my first and last name, email address, serial number of the fun, etc...... I was alerted thst they are experiencing multiple emails and they won't be responding this week.. Nobody has recommended an aftermarket barrel. I will not pay glock for a Barell. Once again, I am want suggestions on an aftermarket barrel and I may want to try out competitive shooting. Any recommendations on aftermarket barrels?

Lots of Lone Wolf barrels out there for the lead shooters.

CAUTION: I do not have one, just what I read on the www.

What is "co petit ice shooting?"

Pretty sure he means "competition shooting".

At what distance? If we're talking very close distances like 5 to 10 yards, it's pretty hard for a barrel-related problem to result in that much of a miss. Even a smoothbore can make small groups at those distances.

How many rounds have gone through that barrel? It should take a LOT of rounds to wear out a Glock barrel and even with tens of thousands of rounds through it, it should still be shooting pretty well.

Are the bullets tumbling when they hit the target? Are the holes round or are they oblong like the bullet is hitting on its side or partially on its side?

If the holes are round then it's not the barrel. Something is wrong in how the barrel/slide/frame are locking together and you should stop shooting the gun and have a gunsmith/armorer examine it.

If the bullets are tumbling then the bore might be shot out, but that would take a LOT of rounds. There are Glocks with 100,000 rounds through the original barrel that still shoot ok. It would be more likely that the bore is badly leaded or has accumulated some other excessive fouling that has gotten so bad that the rifling isn't doing its job.

Call Glock Customer Service at 1-770-432-1202 and ask for a Return Material Authorization (RMA), I wouldn't try & shoot this gun again before it's been evaluated.

Try using a copper fouling cleaner. I have friends running Lone Wolf barrels and seem to like them. Bar-Sto are really good but cost over half of a new gun.

FWIW I have a KKM drop in barrel that had tighter lock up than the stock barrel. I've got thousands of rounds through it without any issue. They're not cheap though.

Again an age of the pistol and a round count through the barrel would help. You might be able to save yourself some money by diagnosing the problem further.

I have no clue the age of the gun, nor the round count. I didn't buy it new. I have shot less than 100 rounds out of it myself. The holes are round. The distances ranch from 10 feet to 30 yards. Same results.

So you're getting shots 7" left at 10 ft? Something should be visibly noticeable at that point. Can you see rifling in the barrel?

If it's a Gen 2 it could be around 30 years old. Have you inspected or cleaned the barrel? Have you inspected or cleaned the gun? It is possible the gun has out lived its useful life.

Shooting 7 inches to the left at 10 feet is a huge difference than shooting 7 inches to the left at 90 feet (30 yards). If you're getting the "same results" at 10 feel and 90 feet that would be most unusual.

"I didn't buy it new"

"One shot can be 7" to the left, and the next shot might be 10" low and to the right..."

Maybe that's why the first guy got rid of it.

If Block won't help, like others said, get an aftermarket barrel (ie:Lone Wolf).

I agree with the previous poster regarding having the locking block checked for cracks. Ditto the locking block pin.

In addition, I'd also have the slide checked for cracks in the area of the front of the ejection port, on either side.

If the recoil spring assembly hasn't been replaced frequently enough and the gun has been fired a lot, it's also possible the barrel's front locking lug (which engages the slide lock lever) might have become damaged (broken, etc) and it's affected barrel/slide lockup.

As a matter of fact, considering the age of the gun it would probably be a good idea to have it given a detailed inspection by at least a currently certified Glock armorer, if not a factory repair technician.

A smooth bore barrel will not shoot 10" off at 7 yards.
Something should be visibly wrong. Even a large ding at the muzzle won't make that happen.
