Glock 17 as a carry pistol?

I was looking into a Glock 19 for carry. I stopped by the local gun dealer today, and handled one of these. They are just too small to comfortably fit in my ape like hands. The finger grooves don't allow my sausage fingers to fit inside.
I then picked up a Glock 17. The thing is perfect. It fits my gorilla hands great. However, the thing is a very large handgun. I am looking for a gun to conceal carry, and the 19 is just too uncomfortable in hand.
So, Does anyone hear actually care a 17 for ccw? What suggestions do you have as far as carry methods? I will state up front, that I am not a huge fan of OWB carry. Being a large guy, I have plenty of body heat and rarely wear lots of clothes that would cover an OWB rig. Thanks for any help.

I carried the 34 for a time but it was OWB. My 19 has its choice of an OWB or an IWB both from http://sidearmor.net/. They also make an IWB for the 17. I don't think carrying a 17 would be that big a deal but I live in an open carry state so if my pistol prints or flashes I don't really care.

been carryin my G22 for a few weeks while my lil snubbie is being worked over. No problems at all.......highly recommend good strong belt though......worth its weight in ammo!!

I definately am looking into a good belt right now. I can't get my CCW until I turn 23 in Jan. I plan on getting one for my birthday... been looking into the Wilson ones. Who else do you guys reccomend for gun belts?

A Glock 17 is too big for me to comfortably carry IWB. But then I'm 5' 9", 160 lbs. If you're significantly larger than me, it might not be an issue for you.

I'm carrying a G17 in a Sidearmor IWB holster. I've been carrying it for about 2 weeks, since my P11 is at Kel-Tec getting nightsights. For a large gun, it's not bad to carry around, but I'm going back to carrying my P11 when it's returned :).

I would say I am significantly bigger: 6'4" 300 :D
I just like bigger guns because they fit my hands really well. My Beretta 92FS fits my hands great. I just don't want to try and haul anything that heavy around all day. The Glock is very light for it's size, so the weight issue is non-existent. Now, I just need a holster that will allow me to carry it daily with out exposing the firearm.

Nifer, you might consider Rusty Sherrick's Gochenour Extreme High Ride holster. You do need a cover garment, but just to the bottom of the belt. A Glock17 would be too long for me to use with that holster, but I do have one for my Kimber Compact and it works just fine. Easier to conceal than a standard pancake holster, and more comfortable than IWB.

PS: Oh, and yes, I would concur that almost 100% more is significantly larger ;)

Another option...

Might want to try and find a first or second genration model 19, these models don't have those annoying finger grooves for the big handed among us :)

I have a similar situation. I bought the Glock 23 over the 22 because of my assumption that it would be more concealable. It probably is but I really did prefer the feel of the full size gun's grip.
My preferred means of carry had become a fanny pack and the 22 would have been just as concealable.
Now here's a story for you that might help. For two years I was coaching CYO baseball with another gentlman who was a policeman. T-shirts and shorts were his dress and he was generally all over the field snagging grounders, pitching, hitting flies and grounders, etc. Once we had taken a break from practice and were leaning on a fence watching the field activities. I had just become interested in acquiring a Glock and asked him how he liked the Glock 22 his department had been carrying for a couple of years. He proceeded to reach down and pull it from his shorts. I'd never spotted it in all the time we'd spent together. He was carrying it about 1 o'clock. I wish I'd had the presence of mind to ask about which holster he had been using. He was an average sized guy, about 6' and less than 200 lbs. I was pretty impressed. However when I was ready to lay down my money I went with the 23. I've never had any real regrets, but still wish I'd gone with the 22. Carrying IWB the longer grip length of the 22 might have been a problem for me as far as "printing", but since I've settled on fanny pack carry, it wouldn't have been.

I use the Wilderness Tactical Products "Instructor belt." Get the 5-stitch rather than the 3-stitch belt, they're stiffer without being uncomfortable.

They also don't have the annoying "squeak" that leather does.
