Glock 17 Accuracy

I have recently purchased a G-17 gen 3. I know, I know, should have waited a few months for the Gen 4. I am not very satisfied with the price tag on this weapon versus the overall accuracy that I am able to get out of it. My shots are all over the place(relatively speaking not literally of course). I wouldn't say that it is me, as I am an exceptional shot with my other pistols. Even my junky Hi-Point .40 S&W I can get pretty decent groupings out of. So I need to get more accuracy out of this thing if I am even going to consider keeping it. But then again with a Gen 3 I will be losing about $100 on the resell so I really don't want to do that or have a spiffy paper weight.

So my question is this: What could I do to squeeze every ounce of accuracy out of this pistol (aside from shooting a couple thousand through it that is a given)? I had read about recoil spring replacements. But which way, stiffer or lighter? What are the benefits of either? I heard somewhere that a lighter spring helps a lot with recoil control, but I don't see how that happens?

I had also considered a longer barrel with a compensator. Are there any merits to this? Of course a longer barrel would help with accuracy, but is the compensator worth the extra money?

And last but not least the only upgrade I am dead set on is the adjustable night sights. I really don't mind "tricking out" this glock, so to speak. I know the eventual price tag would be more than a different pistol, but all things aside, I really like this pistol. But if I can't do any better than what I am now I would just as soon pick up my Ruger to run the 9x19 bullets through. Or just spend the money on another caliber and shot that gun instead of taking the Glock out to the range. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Glocks are known for decent accuracy. Not excellent accuracy. They sacrifice accuracy for dependibility.

I don't see how a different recoil spring would have anything to do with accuracy. Could be above my head on that one. Can't help you there.

Again, I don't see how a longer barrel will help you. Barrel length has little if any thing to do with accuracy. Longer sight radius would most likely help. Or change out the barrel for a match grade barrel at the cost of sacrificing dependability/reliability.

The stock Glock is a fighting pistol. Not a compitition pistol. Sure you can shoot competitively with it. People do. I don't shoot competition so mine are fighting/defensive pistols, therefore, they stay pretty much stock. Maybe throw in a match grade barrel for your range/competitive shooting and put the stock one back in for carry, HD.

While I personally prefer Sig's over Glocks, I am more than satisfied with my 19C's accuracy; with the limited frequncy I shoot it, I'm sure it shoots better. The factory Glock sights are designed for fast target aquisition necessary in combat, not driving tacks, but how exactly are you shooting it? Offhand only, or have you tried bench resting as well? Before you write the 17 off, or start spending more coin on upgrades, do some slow bench shooting. I can't quite shoot my Glock as accurately as my Sigs, but my Sigs are my work guns and receive the lions share of attention for that reason.

I had a Glock 17 and a 19. On the 17 I tried every “drop-in” item available to try to get better accuracy out of it. Not much luck. The one item that helped most was lowering the trigger pull weight. I sold them both for a loss and bought a Beretta 92FS. I’m glad I did.

The Glock is a fine pistol if used with-in it’s intended purpose, minute of man at 10 yards. If you’re looking for accuracy, you will not find it in a Glock, or at least I couldn‘t.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Head shots at 50yds (fifty yards) are no problem with my G17. And I don't mean one every now and again. I may drop one or two out of a box of fifty. I may.

EDIT: It's probably not the gun. Have someone else shoot it.
