Glenfield model 60

I was doing my annual cleanup of my dads guns this afternoon. He never shoots, and only has 3 long guns so it doesn't take long to wipe them down. Anywho, his little 22, that I shot many times when I was a kid, is a Glenfield model 60. I wanted to find out how old the gun is, but I couldn't find a serial number on it. I didn't take the stock off to look underneath the barrel, but there is no number on the barrel or receiver. What's up with that?

Yep, what he ^ said.

Serial number, if it had one, would be located on the left hand side of the receiver.

The first two digits of the serial numbered guns will tell you the year of production. If you subtract those two numbers from 2000 you get the year it was made. For example, my Glenfield 60's first two numbers are 17 indicating that it was made in 1983. My Glenfield 75's first two numbers are 26 indicating 1974.

Seems as if yours is a pre '68.

Hmmm.....my G60's first two numbers are 71, which is more than likely the year it was built, if anything. It certainly wasn't made in 1929.

They're great rifles. My Glenfield Marlin Mod 60 was also manufactured in 68 (CL= March 1968). You can look up the manufacture dates here.

Thanks, EAJ702

Thanks to the link you provided, I now know my Glenfield Model 60 was made in 1984. I bought it in a garage sale for $40, about 20 years ago, when it was only about 5 years old. Such a good deal!!! Has a fixed 4X Bushnell Sportview scope on it - a separate purchase, at another garage sale, for $10.

Happy to be of help Major Dave. With a little care they last a lifetime. That's a Bushnell 4x32mm rimfire scope on mine too. :)

Glenfield mod 60 Marlin tight bolt

My old, newly bought Marlin is jamming just about every shot. The bolt recoil spring is very stiff and hard to hand eject shells. I replaced the recoil spring hoping that was the problem but that didn't help. I have thoroughly cleaned all parts with no change. Has anyone got any suggestions
