Give Witness a chance

got a new Poly frame Witness in .40 in Wonderfinish .I was pleasantly surprised.Fit and finish were very good and this thing is a tack driver! It's one of those that if it doesn't go in the bull you know you didn't do your part.Time will tell if it stands up to a lot of shooting but so far I love it.If you're considering one go ahead.I think you'll be happy.

The most accurate .45 I have ever owned was a Witness Fullsize steal frame. Granted i have never owned any $3k custom 1911's, but for $350 brand new this thing blew my mind. After my first range trip I was convinsed that I had found some guided hardball. The amazing amazing this about it was how effortless it was to be accurate with. I have other guns that are more accurate now (by a slim margin) but you have to work very hard at it..with the Witness you accuracy just seeme to happen, even when you werent really trying for a slowfire match grade score. probly had something to do with how exceptionaly well the Winess/CZ's fit my hand. I didnt have to overcome an unatural feal or off point of aim to get it to hit. Goint go buy a Magnum Research Baby Eagle Compact steal frame as soon as my 30 days is up from buying my last handgun (27 days and counting...GRRR)
Hope this version of the CZ clones is as accurate

I have a .40 cal. Witness (compact steel). You are correct, they are great guns! Tack driver? You bet!

WITNESS FEEDBACK

Have two 9mm frames, one 45 frame.

Have slide/barrel combo's for 9X19, 9X21, 38 Super, 40 S&W, 41AE, and 45ACP.

My 45 was also uncannily accurate, but atrociously UNreliable in feed and/or extraction.
Just too accurate to sell.

My 'stock' nine is fine, the custom nine (thank you Bob Cogan and Nowlin [barrel]) is mighty fine, the 38 Super makes me look good, the 40 is accurate enough to pick off flies (not fantasy, fact), the 41AE is stunning, and the 45ACP, while functionally inept, shows 'Bullseye' accuracy.

Tens of thousands of rounds (some perhaps accidentally exceeding SAAMI specs), no broken parts, one holster size (kinda'), and they fit my hand(s).

Next step -- 10mm.

All of these are variants of the famed CZ-75. This gun comes after the 1911 and the High Power as the #3 most cloned automatic handgun design. (#4 is the Walther PK type)

Tom,
I have the 10mm in the steel compact frame. Great little pistol. I paid $319 for mine, but you may be able to do a little better. I'd highly recommend it.

One thing to keep in mind. EEA sells conversion kits (slide, barrel, spring & mag) for both their steel frame & polymer models. Buy one complete Witness in 10mm, than pickup a .45 conversion, or a .40 conversion, or a .38 super conversion, etc., etc..

In fact CDNN has a polymer combo package on sale for $369. They're offering a full size .45 with 9mm conversion, or a compact .45 with .40 conversion. Two guns for $369 is a pretty good deal.

I have an old 10mm witness, one of the very first into the US, so I cannot comment on current production.

Mine is very accurate, as reliable as my glock g20 and does not bell the brass like the g20 prior to a kkm barrel. Mine has an affinity for winchester silvertips and will put 10 into a silverdollar sized hole at 15 yds as long as I am willing to pay for them. It will handle 40s&w power loads (in 10mm cases of course) and will also take the bruiser 800x reloads.

My witness is my truck gun and I carry it around a lot.

I cannot think of a better recommendation for it then I will trust my and my families lives to it.

I had a 10mm Witness. For the money a darn good piece and quite reliable. The first ones they imported came with bad magazines, but I imagine that problem is long since fixed. The ergonomics are a dream come true.

The main weaknesses of mine were the accuracy (just OK), trigger (mediocre) and finish (kinda ugly). The 10mm's recoil spring is also too weak IMHO. Accurize the sucker, give it a trigger job and re-finish it and it would be out-and-out SWEET.

Castlebravo is right about the mags, I kind of forgot about that. I got replacement mags with the long feed lips years ago and never had a problem since.

I, too, have a 10mm Witness, full size with Wonderfinish.

I don't care much for the trigger, as it's pretty heavy, but I can work around that.

It's very accurate, but it needs more powerful springs.

Ejected brass goes into the next time zone.

I think the Witness 10s come with 14 pound springs. I'm looking to get at minimum an 18 pounder for it.

I picked up a Witness Sport Long Slide (.45 acp) about a year ago. It was a trade for a target .22. The prior owner had developed severe arthritis in his hands, and shooting a .45 was very painful for him.

On the face of it, it was a very good trade for me: even trade of a $300 .22 for a $550 .45.

After I got it, I wasn't so sure: one of the nastiest triggers I've ever had to deal with.

Sent it to the gunsmith, who did a trigger job -- and improved it greatly, but couldn't do much with the heavy STACK in the DA pull.

I tried selling it, but nobody was interested...

Took it back home and started dry firing it every night, 300+ times a night, for about a month, while I played at the computer.

It now has an exceptional SA trigger and the DA trigger is pretty darned good. The gun is VERY accurate. And its fast becoming my favorite .45 -- even though I have a very nice custom 1911. (The SA trigger is just about as good as the 1911...)

The Witnessguns have potential. The problem is just figuring out how to tap that potential...

I have a 10mm Witness fullsize steel and I love it. I like it even better than my G20. Mine has a smooth DA trigger and I have Novak night sights. It feels good in my hand and shoots dead on. I also have a long slide 45 upper with adjustable sights. Everything works great with it as well. I'm looking at getting a 22 upper next.
