Girl forcibly confiscated by Child Protective Services, placed on chemo

i can understand both sides of this case, but i cannot fathom why the parents dont want to do everything medically possible to save thier daughters life. that should be the first and only priority.

God bless them and i hope they recieve a miracle.

I thought some judge told the social workers to give her back? I don't know what that outcome was? Wish I new all the story on this one too....not just what the media reported.... Seems like a paragraph or two is always missing. If not and she was taken under less than 100 percent legal reasons, someone at the top all the way down to the social worker(s) who took the girl are going to get burned????

I guess more might come about this ordeal soon?

There is enough disagreement in medical science on when radiation is and is not necessary that no one physician's opinion on the matter should ever be cause for MSW's to forcibly remove a child from thier parents.

Even in cases where there is medical certainty, I still believe parental rights outweigh all others.

There are cases where some children cannot get treatment due to family finances. There are other cases where children are removed from thier families and forced to have treatment. I suppose a boat payment is due somewhere.

As far as I can see. Terry schiavo was surrounded by offical depts. ie police, because she would clearly die on her own. Poor Katie was taken against her and her families will becuase she won't!
kid

PS In my best estimation, the state is responsible for anything that happens to this kid. If she dies because of, due to ,or even inspite of what ever they do to her, the family should (will) sue for a million gazzillion. Then the officials should be help responsible for murder, the forcable taking of another's life.

But the same people who fought to keep her alive are fighting to keep Katie alive.

The difference is that Katie, not being an adult, is not a real person yet so it's much easier for the courts to decide what's best for her and enforce the decision.

From what I've always heard, (Docs, correct me if I'm wrong) A patients mental state is as important to their recovery as the medical treatment.
What state is the girl in when she is forced to undergo treatment that she doesn't believe in against her will with no family support (for the procedure)
Depression is always a factor in chemo treatments her's will be magnified

But, should you have a right as a parent to decide you are going to let your child die, because you don't want them to have treatment? The child has no legal standings to say whether or not they want the treatment, and I would doubt that a 12 year old girl could make a wise, thought out decision about such an event.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A 13-year-old cancer patient will get the radiation treatment her parents had opposed after new medical tests showed she is no longer in remission.

Katie Wernecke's parents decided to drop their objection to the treatment after the tests were disclosed during a juvenile court hearing Friday. Katie, who turned 13 on Saturday, will remain in state custody as her therapy gets under way. <snip>

Unless parents are rotten to the core........? give her back and monitor situation...

The parents are now in understanding that test show the girl needs radiation. This sounds like to me that they are reasonable and love the child. The state still holds the girl in the protection for what reason? Maybe a combination of things took place......Parent's got full medical story. Sounds like they agree to treat as doc's advised... So my feeling is girl should go back to family and state (if they feel) could monitor to be sure treatment is going on.......... Seems cut and dry.........am I missing something
