Gibbs Rifle Co. ?

I've been admiring a No. 5 Jungle carbine for quite some time. Historically correct or not, they are a great looking rifle. I visited their home page this morning and they say their rifles are "temporarily unavailable". Anyone know what gives?

I expect it means that they don't have any to sell at the moment but think they will probably get some more sometime in the future in the future.

Matt, Check out Shotgun News. There have been some advertised there. One of them are claiming to have originals.

Gibbs sells reproduction Jungle Carbines, made from cut-down No4Mk1s, as well as Ishapore 2A1 rifles. Gibbs catches a lot of flak over this, because they don't go very far in describing that these are indeed reproductions, vs. the real thing. As of the last couple months, they simply cannot compete now that Century and SOG have received a bunch of ORIGINAL No5Mk1 Jungle Carbines from Malaysia and neighboring countries. The real No5Mk1's are selling for around $250.00, which has put a big dent in Gibbs' market share. As long as the real thing is available for a reasonable price, I doubt you'll see the Gibbs repros, at least, not at their former price.

That's one of the original No5's now on sale through Century and SOG, BTW. I bought it in September, paid $10.00 extra for their "hand-picked" fee, and ended up steaming and cleaning up the stock. But the numbers matched and the bore is good, save for a rough throat. I run my 174 and 180gr .303 British handloads that duplicate MkVII ball ballistics. They really give the shooter a reminder that the rifle weighs a shade over 6 pounds!
