I looked at a converted enfield rifle in 45/70 this spring while at the NRA convention in Charlotte N.C.Anyone know if they have hit the market yet,or anything about them. They looked like a good deal to me.

Are you talking about Gibb's Summit carbine?

http://www.gibbsrifle.com/sport.html

The site says it's available this Fall, with suggested retail at a mere $374! Looks great. A good answer for those who want a fast and powerful carbine, but prefer bolt actions to leverguns. Looks like 40" overall length to the Guide Gun's 37"

I dont suppose if anyone knows if it will be on the level of a marlin or the hotter ruger #1 for cup pressures?
For $400 I'm gonna have to add one to my collection anyway, if I can find one that is.

Gibbs rifle

I am talking about the summit carbine.I have the brochure i picked up back in the spring. The rep.said then it would be available by this fall but i can't find one for purchase.I found an enfield site from canada that had a review of one which compared the strength of the action to at least the level of the marlin lever actions,at least in theory but would'nt come right out and recomend it because of liability concerns of course. It definitely wouldn't be as stong as a ruger no 1,due to the rear locking lugs.45/70 is my all time favorite caliber and this gun i handled is definitely going to be a winner if they do get it to market at the target price. The rep said it should retail under 300.00 in places.Any body seen any at a dealer please let us know something.
