I own a GEW 33/40 Mauser caliber 7.92x57 I am trying yo find ammunition that is safe to shoot. It has markings on the receiver DOT 1941 so i'm not sure if I can us a modern load. Any suggestions on the proper round to shoot?

The 33/40 action is fine with any modern 8x57 (8mm mauser) ammunition as long as the gun is in good mechanical condition. No ammo worries with that one. Congrats on owning such an uncommon rifle!

Look for 8X57 or 8mm Mauser ammunition. You will be fine your rifle has the .323 bore and not the .318. Most ammunition sold here in the U.S. will be loaded down anyway, shoot and enjoy your rifle.

I see Yugo ball ammo from the 70's on sale at a few places on the web. Any advice on this older ammo?

The 70's yugo ball is supposedly some of the best 8mm surplus ammo that can be had according to the gentlemen on the mauser forums. The 50's yugo have issues with hard primers. I've had fair luck with Romanian, but romanian has gotten more scarce and you will have some misfires with it.
