Getting that Kimber Bug

I just recently got my first 1911 style pistol. A charles Daly Mid size. I Really like it and it seems to be a good pistol, but I am wondering about those Kimbers. Are they really worth the extra money? I handled the three new CDP's the other day and I read the article on them in a Magazine . I am thinking seriously about the compact CDP for ccw. Anybody care to comment on them? Their looks alone would sell me on one.How accurate can a 3" barrel be?

Just as accurate as a longer tube - its just harder for you to do your part for it due to the shorter sight radius.
I saw these at SHOT... and they are smooth pistols.
I like the idea of the short frame with the longer tube... its the gun's butt that make concealment an issue... not the barrel you put down your pants. having a longer barrel gives you several advantages.
1. The gun wont sag and let the butt drop and possible printing or impairing your draw stroke because your grabbing fabric with the grip.
2. Longer sight radius makes it easier to get an accurate sight picture.
3. The longer tube gives you a ballistic advantage... Its old hat that longer barrels hit harder. :D

I have handled, fired, and loaded for numerous Kimbers (5"s, Ultras, etc.) and they have ALL been reliable and very accurate.

Well worth the money, and frankly not that expensive.
Buy a base model and add only what you want; they already come 'loaded'.

I've found the best way to get rid of the Kimber bug is to shoot that little SOB. With a Kimber. And keep shooting it. They sometimes charge when they're wounded.

To paraphrase Warren Miller, if you don't get a Kimber now, you'll just be that much older when you do get one.

Or you have jokers like me...

I bought the "low" end when I really *REALLY* wanted the Pro CDP.

Now I have 4 1911's - I shoot 2 of em... 3 Kimbers, 1 SA SS 1911-A1. The Kimber Custom and the Pro CDP are the only ones that see the range... Nothing wrong with the other 2 pistols, these 2 simply outshot the other 2 in my hands...

I figure that if I had bought the Pro CDP first, it woulda saved me $1200 easily!

Be careful to buy that which you really want first - It may save you alot of $$$...

I've got a stainless Ultra Carry and I absolutely love it. Its a splendid shooter and I've had no failures of any kind with it. I really like the looks of the chopped .45's. I must admit that the looks played a part in my decision to purchase it. I highly recommend Kimbers. I think you'll be really pleased if you choose to get one.

I also have a SS Ultra Carry. I really like it, too. I like it even more since Kimber sent me a new slide stop because the slide stop was prematurely holding the slide open with rounds still in the mag. This fixed the problem.
