Getting rust out of a bore?

So I just came into possession of a .54 caliber Great Plains Rifle that appeared in reasonable shape, but when I ran a patch through it, the bore felt a bit rough. Sure enough, a light down the muzzle shows surface rust down about a third of its length. What's a good way to get it out? The loose stuff came out with a good scrubbing of CLP on steel wool, but I want to do better.

try some jb bore paste

If theres pitting, you wont ever get that out so just do the best you can do at removing what loose rust there is and see how it comes out.

If that doesn't cut it for you get some CLP, wet down the bore and let sit for a bit. Then push some pieces of Choreboy copper pads down the bore till relatively clean. A little pitting and rust won't ruin the barrel as long as the rest of the barrel and muzzle is good. After that a little bore butter in the barrel when you are done from now on. it's cheap insurance. Been dere dun dat.
