Getting out of shooting

I read a post the other day where someone said that they are getting out of shooting because it's just too much trouble with the laws, shortages and everything.

That is EXACTLY how 'THEY' want us to feel!!!

Do not give in to the gun grabbers. The more they can effectively discourage us from our pastime, the more success they have that they DON'T EVEN HAVE TO GET VOTED INTO LAW! (Pardon my 'shouting' but this needs to be shouted from the rooftops)

I agree with what you are saying but if I lived in a place like NY or CT and I was just barley getting by as it is and couldn't afford to re-register my guns and eat...i'd probably pick eating.

This IS exactly what "they" want, forcing lower income people out of owning firearms by making it too expensive.

When you stop doing something because of fear of terrorism the terrorists win. Why let the anti gun folks win without a fight? I am an American and I own and shoot guns. I am not ashamed of who I am but the guy rwsmith mentioned just might be.

Yes, it’s just backdoor gun control and don’t think the anti-gun crowd doesn’t realize exactly what they are doing. Also, keep in mind the big push is not so much to drive us away, but to make the shooting sports less attractive to new shooters.

Getting out of shooting is exactly what the anti gunners want shooters to do. If shooters quit because it's more difficult, the antis have accomplished their goal.

youtube.com clip....

I saw a video on YouTube where some guy was yapping about gun owners should stop shooting guns and save rounds.
I disagree with that plan but I understand why so many shooters are cheesed off.
Ammunition will come back online soon we just need to hang tough.

it's just too much trouble with the laws, shortages and everything.

That also could be the sentiment of someone who was not passionate about firearms to begin with. Maybe they just no longer found pleasure in shooting or guns.

That has happened to me. And not just with firearms.

Not everything is a conspiracy.

Possibly thinking they might influence us in some way...

That would be a pretty lame strategy.

I can understand shooting less nowadays. It is getting to be expensive, if you can find ammo. Luckily I have managed to acquire the needed components to reload what I shoot, granted @ inflated prices.
I think things are slowly returning to normal. There is no shortage of firearms on the shelves and the prices have come down quite a bit around here. Ammo is becoming more available and the prices will come down sooner or later.
Hang tough folks, better times ahead! This last go around with the anti's has gotten alot of new people into shooting. At least around here it seems so. The ranges are filled to capacity on the weekends which is a realitively new development.

There have been times when I got a bit burned out on shooting. Stuff happens. I have even given consideration to unloading a bunch of my guns and keeping only a special few. Call a doctor, quick. He's sick. Seriously though, at my age I could kick the bucket 5 minutes from now so it's something to thik about. I have a bucnh of Grandkids but none have any interest. My wife would be burdoned with what to do with them and frankly, I don't trust the local gun shops that take consignments. Guess I'll b doing the gun show circuit for a while.if I decide to do it :(
In the meantime, I don't have much of a problem regarding ammo. My first reloadig ttempts was back in 1954 when I started casting bullets to feed my first ever handgun, an S&W 38/44 outdoorsman. I fed it with my own home cast bullets and have done so ever since. I used cast in the 30-30 to do my deer hunting and shoot cast in the .308 Win. and 30-06 and they shoot very nicely, and inexpensively.
But sit down and give up shooting and hunting altogether. No way!

If you are a member of a shooting club, you can leave your guns to them in your will.
Clubs can auction them off to their members, and use the money for range maintenance and improvements.
Heck, if enough money is raised, maybe they'll even name one of the ranges after you.

johnny come latelys, fair weather johnsons....

The 2013 gun blitz has sprung up with a lot of Johnny Come Latelys & Fair Weather Johnsons.
They watch the news & think all guns will be illegal. Or they see The Walking Dead on AMC & think zombies will rampage their town.
These new gun owners are not the same as hunters, match shooters, armed professionals, concealed carry license holders etc.
When the fad & novelty wears off many of these firearm owners will drop off.

I don't know about getting out of shooting entirely but this current nonsense has priced me out of a few events that I wanted to take part in this year.

People talk about "what the antis want" but it wasn't the antis that bought the pallets of 5.56 and .22 lr that used to sit on the floor of the gun shop up the road from me.

Agreed. Sounds to me like a classic case of the gun community misdirecting blame towards the anti-gun boogeyman when it's clearly those in the gun community who are to blame. I don't shoot much so the ammo shortage hasn't really effected me but I can see how frustrating it would be for gun owners when they can't buy ammo for their guns. The last time I bought .22 ammo was last August and I haven't seen any on the shelves since. I don't see this shortage blowing over anytime soon as some have predicted.

Owning, carrying, and shoot firearms is MUCH more mainstream today than it was decades ago, and it is just not hunters sighting in rifles anymore. It is people target shooting for fun, and to practice for self defense.

It seems as if gun owners are the new homosexuals. Go into the closet now.

They're either doing a good job of turning everyone against us, or are outright lying about what people think about gun ownership. I don't know anyone who dislikes guns or ownership. Perhaps the media is lying.

Ah well, don't ask, don't tell seems to be a reasonable policy nowadays for gun owners to follow.

LOL, yes as soon as I get my hands on ammo, I shoot it.

have a small collection of hunting bullets, but anything fmj,I cantkeep my hands off of

I gotta agree with FoghornLeghorn. Sometimes folks find any excuse at all to move on to something different. Not a big deal, not anything at all with anti's "winning" anything. Folks tire of one thing and move on to something different everyday. To some it's a matter of doing what's "in" at the moment. Some try something and find it's not really for them. One reason you see so many Nordic Tracs and Exercise bikes at garage sales. Yes, the availability of ammo, lack of appropriate shooting areas and prohibitive restrictions on ownership do sway some folks, but thankfully those are few and far between.
