My Sig 226 and 229 are well shot at this point, and the coating is about half worn on both. What's the best way to get it off and just have a shiny barrel?

The stuff they use on their bbls is similar to (I'm pretty sure) Beretta's Brunicon(sp) finish.

A couple of those little diamond erasers are handy to have around for lots of uses.

SIG barrel
It has to come off physically. I've never found a chemical or stripper to do the job on a SIG. I use a muslin wheel with 400 grit, or if you're going to gun kote or Duracoat it, DuPont's Starburst media in a blast cabinet. Don't forget to plug the bbl if you blast it.

Why on earth do you want to sand a barrel and put extra wear on it for no reason? You sand too much and you affect the longevity and accuracy of the barrel. Leave it alone, you can only see it when its out of the gun or the slide is back anyway.
