Getting a beautiful blued finish on a BHP?

I saw an incredible finish on a rifle displayed at a shop a few days ago. It was a Weatherby rifle, priced at $9,000... The finish was unlike any I've ever seen on a gun. The steel was polished to a mirror-like surface and blued, giving it a flawless, "wet", dark blue appearance. It was the deepest blue imaginable, and I had no idea that this level of finish work was even possible!

I'd love to have a Hi-Power finished like that rifle. I'd never shoot it again, but it would be a great addition to my humble collection, probably never to be touched with bare hands again. I know it won't be cheap, but I don't even know where to start looking for someone who could accomplish this. Any ideas?

Sounds like a Belgian blue. Expensive, but worth it. Mike Marineau (good friend and D#MN good smith) has done a few that have blown me away. The biggest thing a 'smith has to watch out for is rounding the edges on the weapon. It can be hard to keep everything nice and sharp when you polish that much, but it IS worth it. Usually takes Mike a week to polish one pistol (gotta get it right the FIRST time!). Not a whole lot else gets done during that time, either.

How can I reach him to discuss this project? If he has a website with some photos of his work, that would be great!

Does anyone else know others around the country that can do this type of finish?

Was the finish similiar to this one?

If so, I can point you to a good place to have it done.

99.5% of a nice blue job like you mention is in the polishing. If it doesn't have a mirror finish, it won't come up to the standard you saw. Old Colts and Brownings had finishes like that.
