"Get around to it"

How many "get around to it" guns do you have laying around apart in drawers and closets? Stuff that need refinishing, parts, wood or just an "Idea' rifle/shotgun/pistol? I am getting old and over the last two years I have had guns, tools and parts at 4 different auctions. Stuff I never use and probably never will. The amazing thing is I still have about 20 fix/project guns here. I saw another post on this forum about a 30.30 model 99 and I remember I have a 30.30 take-down stripped down and in a drawer. Then I started to think of the other guns. Is anybody else like this?

I've only got one in the Non-Functioning stages...polishing out a High Standard Model B that the previous owner has scratched his initials and kills into...
Obviously, collector value was shot, so I began hand-polishing with 320 grit & Hoppes #9...
the scratches are mostly rubbed out now, just a few areas of rough-looking finish to get smooth and shiny again....
Since the Stainless-Steel Look under the old marred blueing was so nice...I'm considering just using a sealer and leaving it polished...

But another part of me wants to have it plated after I complete polishing...by using some old 14K gold jewelry from past relationships...
which is a nice way to re-use the gold and still keep it ;)

I've got a few that are functioning, but need some minor TLC...4-5 of those lying around...LOL
Seems like there are always at least that many, for after I fix one...I go get another...

Yup, I relate to some extent. I think it is a generational thing. I have a Remington 788 carbine, .243, that I have wanted to shorten the stock on and file in a schnabel tip. Sounds like fun but I can't seem to get around to it. I would try to pick the one I seemed most interested in, or the one that would upon completion produce the nicest or most impressive result. Any kids in the family that might like a project with you passing along some knowledge and craft?

My son has one of those Mossberg "Chuckster" rifle around there in the shop, just needs to get the metal finished. The stock is hanging on an old coat hanger,, he did a nice job on that but he never bought the Parkerizing kit to finish the barrel and other metal parts.:(

Got a couple.

'69 Marlin 99M1 that I had as a kid & needs a total rebuild- springs, buffer, sear. Gonna resto it, while I'm at it. Finish is shot & I'm gonna re-fin the wood & get the medal CeraKoted matte black.

Got Marlin 995 birch stock that I'm "inletting" to fit a 795. Trigger guard/magwell is done, but barrel channel needs opened up a bit.

You can have this one.:D

I've got an old Marlin 90 O/U shotgun laying in pieces for the last two years. I refinished the stock but just never got around to putting it back together. I've also go my grandfathers old "snake gun". It's a very accurate Rem 512 bolt-action .22 that is rusty and worn. I've been planning on having it stripped and reblued and doing a stock refinish myself for many years now, but just haven't "gotten around to it".

There is always one or two that are works in progress. I still have one Brevix action that I have yet to designate to a project.

Three right now. A 96 Mauser, a shorty Marlin 30-30, and a Marlin .22

Those are the modern guns, I have a few frontstuffers that need some attention. Some that don't.

I have pretty much cleaned up my "project guns", all I have now are ideas and I need some actions to make them happen. I need a few Mauser 98s for a few projects (a 10.9X57mm version of a Mauser Model A integral rib half octagon sporter, a 9.5X57mm Mauser Model B stalking rifle, and a 7X57 American classic sporter), a Winchester 1894 rifle for a top-end-make-the-collectors-drool rifle, and s 1903 Springfield action for an NRA Sporter replica. And maybe a 357-44 B&D fun gun if I can find a suitable action, maybe a few old Colt rebuilds, oh well, I guess I will never be done with these ideas.

More than I'm going to get around to Thats for sure.Always upgrades, addons Stuff I know I'm not going to do,But its laying around waiting.
