German p228 mag compatability

I'm thinking about buying a German p228, but it only has 1 10 round factory mag.

My concern with the gun is the availability of magazines. Does sig still make p228/p229 mags that are exactly to OEM specs for the original p228?

I believe m11a1 and newer p229 mags will work, but wont fit perfectly since the mag well is slightly different.

Then you have older style p229 mags that will work, but im not sure if these are an exact match either.

Does sig still make p228/p229 mags that are made exactly to OEM specs for the original p228? I don't like using mags that aren't made exactly for that gun if its something that might be used for self defense, since mags are crucial to reliability from my experience.

You need the P229 mag that is not marked P229-1.
Quick identifier is that they are 13 round mags. They work in the original 228.

The MecGar mags for the P228 can still be found, work perfectly, and give you 15 rd of capacity in a flush fit grip for ~$23.

Looks like the above is out of the blued magazines, but the nickel ones work great too.

This.^

These Mec-Gar mags work flawlessly in my 1990-production West German-marked P228. They often show up on sale at MidwayUSA and Gun Mag Warehouse.

Here they are in-stock:

Use the discount code "garandthumb" and save a few extra bucks.

Mec-Gar is or has been an OEM manufacturer for SIG, Walther, Beretta, S&W, Ruger, and many other manufacturers, and the quality is equal to or better than current OEM SIG magazines.

The old 13-round "zipperback" SIG mags are cool when you can find them, but I have no qualms using these Mec-Gar magazines.

I have a P228 and an M11-A1 and the mags for each are different and marked accordingly for each pistol
