I also recommend you contact your local Prosecutor's office & ask them what, in their view, is a "public gathering". Since they're the ones that decide whether to prosecute you or not...

Varying the topic slightly - Does anyone know what the GA laws are regarding automatic knives - I thought all were outlawed until I bought a real nice Boker Tree (the blade is just under 3") at a flee market in Chamblee. He had all side opening automatics of assorted quality.

Just curious.

i know who to contact,, i was asking about anyone else's carry method thanks for the replys though.

Georgia's carry laws can be summarized in once sentence:

If you don't carry, you ain't a Georgian. :D

(Well, OK, I can *wish* can't I???)

Since I live too close to the liberal enclave of Atlanta, concealed.

Even though you can carry open in Georgia I don't think it's worth the hassle you will get for doing it. You will be questioned, stopped, stared at, pointed at.

I think the time to show your gun is when defending yourself or someone else. This way it's presence is justified by the good it's being used for. If you show it all the time people start forming conclusions and thoughts that may not be correct. Since you are wearing a gun they may be a little shy about asking you about it.

Concealed IWB.
About open carry and jumping to conclusions. My father, who IS an LEO, and I went to the range one day, made a family day of it with my mom and 4 yr old niece. After we get through at the range we go to GA Square Mall in Athens, well dad decided that since he had his PPK with him and only had an OWB holster for it he would carry it open (we both have GA Firearm Licenses so we both could have legally concealed). I am doning my NRA Scrambled Eggs hat and my father is wearing my NRA America's First Freedom cap. We decide to go into Electronic Boutique to see if they have any kiddie software in the clearance bins, otherwise their stuff is way overpriced and selection is pitiful. The little, er well, in intelligence anyway, clerk and the similarly little manager just keep eyeing my dad. I hear one of them comment that "That looks so stupid, that is why people shouldn't have guns." I will assume he was critisizing my dad for open carry. I don't think they actually meant for me to hear that remark though. No other hassles, just kept getting the eye the whole time we are there, no Athens PD or Mall Cops showing up.

We then go to McDonalds across the street. My mom and dad are getting the food while I am watching my niece play on the playground when a couple who's daughter is also playing on the playground start talking with me. It seems they live in the same town as I, although they are transplanted from the North. For some reason the lady thinks I am an LEO. Now I am concealed and not printing in anyway whatsoever. It turns out she mistakes my NRA scrambled eggs cap for some sort of official police cap or something. I explain to her, no I am a member of the "Natinoal Rifle Association."
