General Venting

Just a little cathartic venting on my part...

How blind are liberals / MMM'ers that can blame handguns for the "12 children killed per day" and then support abortion rights? ...

Really sick to death of the liberal media...right here and now, I'll wager ten bucks that the Washington Post and the New York Times , (and through them, ABC, NBC, and CBS), will proclaim ALGORE Jr. the winner of tonights debate, even if he soils his shorts on national TV. ...

And just exactly HOW do they think that registration of handguns, (or ANY guns), will effect crime? Even IF the police find a weapon used in the crime, the only place registration will lead them is to the last LEGAL owner of that weapon. If it was stolen from that owner, well that just seems like another dead end / waste of time for the LEO... A "common sense" solution?

And don't even get me started on the misuse of terminology... assault weapon... semi-automatic...Argh !

VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE!
All this, and no coffee yet today! Perhaps I should get a psychiatric consult at work today!

Well...I feel a little better now.

I agree, E3M. I'm always amazed at how well the enemy has done their work. I've heard shooters who should know better refer to AR15s and s/a AK47s as 'assault weapons'. I usually get the ol' deer in the headlights look when I correct them. Sometimes we're our own worst enemy.
Let's try this again for the logically challenged...if there's no selector position that says 'auto' it's NOT AN ASSAULT WEAPON!!

Whew, that felt good.

Two words: OWNER LIABILITY

You, the gun owner, are going to end up carrying a very large insurance policy.

Well Deb, let me start off by saying hello and welcome to TFL. I see that that was your first and only post so far here. You need to keep in mind that we are from different areas with different laws. I happen to live in New Mexico. There is no owner liability here. If a gun is stolen and used in a crime, it is not my fault that I was robbed. Likewise, private party sales are perfectly legal with no paperwork. As for insurance, my guns are my insurance policy.

Thank you for the welcome, and yes, I'm a "newbie". I'm going to probably be doing more reading than posting.

I understand your point about areas of the country being different, but that doesn't mean things are set in stone - Maryland used to be a state that didn't have a law that required a spent shell casing be submitted with every new firearm purchase - right?

2nd Amendment rights can also be undermined by making gun ownership cost-prohibitive. What better way than to not only require licensing and registration fees, but to also then set up a chain of liability that requires some sort of insurance, which translates to additional cost?

In New Jersey, where I'm from, the state law requires that we have auto liability insurance (and it wasn't always that way), and we are basically captive to the whims of the auto insurance companies, or the state government that "regulates" them. Might this be something the anti-rights coalition has in mind with gun owners?

Gotta watch that "backdoor" stuff, too.... ;)

Deb,

Antis do not disdain any solution that would result in harrassing, molesting, annoying, discouraging, frustrating, monkey-wrenching, tripping up, vilifying, marginalizing and (ideally) eliminating private gun owners.

To them, the enemy is the gun owner/RKBA supporter. The criminal is just a misguided victim of society, just another result of two millennia of wealthy white-male domination. But gunowners are anachronistic throwbacks of a tribal past, whose behavior and beliefs need to be "corrected" in light of our recently self-bestowed nobility.

So, if you can't straight-out ban guns (don't you just hate America?), go ahead and tax, overtax, license, harrass, intimidate, scorn, regulate, marginalize and mortify gun owners.

Until gun owners will have enough. One way or the other :D

What - you're not going to ask "What exit?"

Thanks to both you and 416Rigby. I'll resume lurking mode now...
