General revolver question.

Lightsped

New member
Last week I bought a new Taurus Total Titanium 38 special snubnose. This is my first revolver.
I have noticed that the front side of the cylinder is beginning to get scratched. This happens when the cylinder is opened and closed for reloading/inspection. The front side of the cylinder is making light contact where the cylinder meets the barrel as the cylinder is closed. Once the cylinder is closed and locked it doesn't scrape the barrel. It only scrapes as it is opened and closed.
Anyways, is this normal for revolvers? Should the cylinder touch the barrel as the cylinder as the cylinder is unlocked and opened/closed?
Thanks

That is not normal. Could be a bent crane, take it back to your dealer and show him, probably get warrentee repair or replacement. Tarus is good about makin it right. It may have been damaged while at the dealer's place by someone mishandling it.

Sam.....if it ain't broke, let me fix it.

Sounds broken. I've had bad experience with the Taurus firearms I've shot, but I hear they have excellent service.

That is not normal. It is especially a concern if the cylinder is titanium. From what I have read, which I have absolutely no experience with, the outer 'coating' on these titanium guns is much harder than what is underneath--kind of like case hardening on the lockwork of S&W revolvers. That is why S&W advises special precautions against certain abrasives during cleaning. It may be possible that the rubbing on your revolver could wear into the softer portion of the metal below.

NOT NORMAL & NOT SAFE. Take it back to the dealer and then to Taurus. They have great service and turnaround.

I just want to restate what is going on with my Taurus. It only scrapes (and it is a light scrape, nothing hard) as I slide the cylinder back into the frame, or out of the frame. Once the cylinder latches down inside the frame it rotates very freely. The scratches are very light. If you all still think I need to take it back to the dealer/Taurus I will, but that is such a headache if it isn't worth it. ANyways let me know.
Thanks for your time.
