Gen 2 glock 22 question

I’m looking to pick up a gen 2 glock 22 in 40 cal. I’ve read about the “glock kaboom”. Is this just an internet myth or is it something I should worry about?

IMHO, if you’re shooting factory ammunition you should theoretically be ok.

If you’re going to shoot your own reloads you’re probably better off getting an aftermarket barrel with a safer barrel chamber than gen 2 .40’s. $100 for a barrel is money well spent.

Thanks for the info. I never shoot reloads usually it’s federal or Winchester from walmart. I’ve looked for a replacement barrel and the 40 is hard to find for some reason. And if I did find them they were well over 100 bucks. If the factory gen 2 Barrel is good to go then I have no worries about using it I just wanted to clarify if the so called “glock kaboom” was a real thing. I realize any gun can have these kabooms but the research I’ve read seems to be more prevalent in glocks gen 2 40s. Thanks again.

Gen 2 Glocks in .40 had looser chambers to facilitate more reliable feeding, less FTF's and jams. I think the comment that factory ammo is fine is because the brass is strong and won't split or have a case rupture because the brass is malleable. After a few reloads, the brass will have been re-sized and expanded so many times it weakens.

Normally it's not an issue because other pistols' chambers are smaller and the brass case isn't stressed as much.

I agree you should be fine, but I would get a Gen 3 or 4 instead. The Gen 4's were built specifically to make the .40 Glocks more reliable with light attachments. I like the texture, backstraps, and dual recoil spring more. They help lessen the recoil a noticeable amount.

Try Lonewolf Distributors or Ebay for $100ish barrels.

I disagree with the comment about getting a gen 3 or 4 instead. They offer nothing over the gen 2’s, at least for me.

The problem with a Glock in .40 S&W is the factory barrel leaves the cartridge partially unsupported. If you shoot only standard pressure rounds, you should be ok.
I put a Lone Wolf barrel in mine because I want to shoot any kind of ammo, including lead, which you are not supposed to do in the factory barrel. Mine is a Gen III, but I’m not sure how much difference it makes, the barrels are the same.
