Gas leak in bushmaster AR15

Just got my Bushy back from repairs ( short stroking, shooting left). Repair tag said " re-indexed barrel, removed burrs from feed ramp, and .........sealed gas system. ) What could have been leaking? I'm sure some of you AR15 guys might have some insight on this. By the way, seems odd that a new gun would be sent out with burrs on the feed ramp?

Anyway, BM has a good reputation for service and I second that oppinion as the were very nice and quick in responding to my problems. Gun work great now. Quality control needs improvement though.

gas leak/ excessive windage

HC, don't sweat it, ALL AR's leak...............at the sight post, and also, blow by at the key.
From the sound of things, the front site was installed off center, and the re-indexing occured there...(that is why your windage was off).
Re- sealing, is just a slop term, like( shop supplies, misc), means nada............
Unless a barrel is DEFECTIVE,( detent loose) or the upper reciever is damaged,(detent slot wallowed out) there is NO way to get an AR barrel indexed improperly.
The front site.....well that's a whole nuther story...........
The burr's, on the feed ramp, could happen to any rifle, anywhere, anytime, any brand..........
If I were to guess, the short stroking was maybe due to a crooked key, causing gas cycling pressure problems.
As this slides over the gas tube, coming directlly from the front site.

As a matter of fact,

There's a trick described in "Black Magic: The Ultra Accurate AR-15" that deals with "sealing" the area just above the charging handle to keep the shooter from getting the "ol' gas eye."

When did you buy your gun????
I had a few do the same thing customers bring um back, I sent them in and got the same discription.
The rumor is that BM let quality slip a little in the name of quanity about the time Cali closed the registration of new assult rifles and for the Y2K thing.
I had 3 rifles with the same problem you descibe (short stroking)
Another had very poor accuracy I looked at it and the barrel was like hand tight I know the gas tube will keep it from unscrewing but
In BMs defense I have had zero problems after that.

I purchased mine last December. The gun was assembled in May 2000. I had no accuracy probs with mine, It just shot left and short stroked. All is well now:)
