Garand

I am looking into an eventual addition to my collection :
an M1 Garand from Miltech (www.miltecharms.com)

They look like they produce a very fine final product/restoration. Has anyone purchased a rifle from them ?

No, not yet.

I like their Garands as well. Did you see the recent article on Miltech in G&A?

Those rifles are expensive though. I'll have to save up and get one as well.

The only Garand I have now is on of those parts kit guns with an American reciever. Shoots well. I wouldn't hesitate getting one of these shooters as well. Great to hunt with.

MP

I don't know your experience with the M1 but I might suggest going to http://www.jouster.com and posting there to the largest group of online M1 collectors I've seen. I've heard the Miltech line of rifles would cost you alot more than a quality piece from Orion 7 http://www.m1garandrifle.com or Fulton Armory http://www.fulton-armory.com (if you could believe that)and you might get more accurizing, if you what it. I think they could do a service grade restoration for alot less. Sorry, no crate. FWIW

Why not just get a decent shooter from the Civilian Marksmanship Program? http://www.odcmp.com

That's where I got mine from. I just loved the fact that, essentially, Bill Clinton's administration was sending me a Garand. Picked it up in the Post Office (you, know, that place with the No Guns sign).

Then if you want it to be accurized, there are plenty of smiths who can do a good job for you.

Thanks to all for the input,

In the old days when it was DCM, virtually every Garand was in great shape. Modernly, it's an iffy proposition and of the two I purchased last year, one shot a 6" group at 100 yards & the other, which had a ding on the muzzle, shot a 1 1/2 foot group.

Sorry to hear that yours would not shoot! I guess I was lucky, mine will do 3" or so (probably would do better if the eyes were younger)and its all matching parts with the original barrel. Brother in law got one not too long before I did and his was all mathching parts also but the bore is a little dark. Probably a recruit and corrosive ammo. I am glad I was not him when his drill sergeant saw it :D, anyway it will still shoot 4 to 6 inches.

Springfield Armory is about to start producing these fine rifles again. They made some a few years ago. They're also releasing a M1 Carbine. This is per the e-mail response I got back from them. Expect to see them late this year or early next year.
