Garand Info Please

Ten Ring

I am a proud new owner of a Springfield Service Grade M1 from the CMP. I love the sound of that! I took it to the range with the milsurp ammo I got while at the north store. I'm not familiar with the M1's sights. I shot about 60rds my first day and kinda figured out how to adjust elevation and windage to keep it in about a 6" group with the iron sights.

Are there any online resources or guides that will help me learn what the markings on the sights mean and how to use them? My club has a 50yd and a 100yd rifle range that I can use.

My bushmaster AR15 has pretty thorough instructions on finding the zero on my rifle. I would love to find something like that for the M1.

I'm also looking for any and all other tech info that might be usefull. There must be a mountain of files and sites on the net. Would someone help me find my way?

Thanks in advance,

Rich

The Garand's sight markings are in yards.

Here's some links containing the GI manuals, and some other good info on the M1 rifle.

After you read up, and get your rifle sighted in, use the manual info to properly set the sights so the markings correspond to the range.

Once set, if you want to shoot at 200 yards, you will just crank the sight drum to the 200 mark, and you'll be on target.

First, the CMP has some good info on their site.
