Garand Conversion

I have a Air Force Col. that wants a Garand converted to 7.62 nato. He is getting a contoured and short chambered barrel. I have a JGS 308 pull through reamer to finish the chamber. If any of you smiths experienced in this convertion would give me your $.02 on this type of project I would appreciate it. Let me know any particular issue that you've run in to when doing this rebarreling. Tip and Tricks are always appreciated.

I don't know the barrel maker yet.
Which barrels do you recommend?

The Barnett barrels sold through Brownells are fine if you want a heavy match barrel. Wilson makes a good standard contour barrel in .30-06, but I don't know if they make one in .308? The only difference other than the chamber is that the gas port hole has to be slightly larger. .089" vs .070", if I remember correctly? Doesn't matter because the barrel maker will have taken care of that.

The only other special change option is to put a .308 spacer block in the front of the magazine. This shortens the front of the magazine space to prevent someone from pusing a clip of '06 down into it. If they do, the first one jams hard in the 308 chamber with the bolt not closed, of course. It can take some pounding to get it back out.

Fulton Armory has these blocks. They have barrels, too, but I've never handled one. The Barnnett and Wilson barrels I've used before.
