I mailed out my application on 9/11 and my Danish M1 arrived today 9/24.

A Springfield serial # 3,312,XXX. The stock looks beat up pretty bad (I got some work ahead of me) the rest of the gun has cosolmine all over it (not as bad as my yugo 48). I didn't have much time to look it over I had to get it in the safe, the old lady was on her way home.

Just remember, with a Garand you can be very honest in answering "No" when the wife asks you if you got a "new" gun. :D

Out of curiosity, is there anything written on the packaging that would indicate that a rifle is inside? I'm thinking about having a Garand shipped to my work address, but if it says "Civilian Marksmanship Program" on the box, that could be a little sketchy.

The problem is this: even if it comes in a discreetly marked box, how will you resist the urge to open it until you get home?

You'll look really funny taking that box to the bathroom with you and emerging with grease all over your hands and a smile on your face.

They come in a heavy brown cardboard box. A white label is maybe 4 X 6 inches with CMP-South (in about 10-12 font size) as the return address. And a signature required sticker.

Because I wasn't home when FedEx came I had to go and pick it up. There I was opening the box in the truck just to get a look.

Last night was the first chance I had to really look at it, and clean it up. I noticed some things different then on my other CMP rifle. What is BMB? The barrel is a VAR - 61 date on it. Also, on the pistol grip the knob at the bottom has a round hole like it once had something inlaid in it. Any ideals? Now I'm going to work on stripping the stock down and raising the dents (alot more then my other springfield had) Overall, a great buy.

I have just put in for one of those Danish Jobs. Can Bushmaster225 tell a little about the metal condition. What kind of parts are on them, Springfield, Winchester etc. I am very anxious to hold mine in my own two hands. Never owned a Garand, or fired one. Some scruffy wood is not much of a deterent. I just finished fixing up a newly aquired Ishapore 308 Enfield that had some serious gunk on the stock and a nasty yellow stripe painted on it. It now looks beautiful; wood, metal the whole works. I figure that the Garand will provide me with not only hours of great shooting but also quality bonding time in the shop making her into something to be proud of. Cant wait to see her.

the inletting on the pistol grip is where a unit property disc used to be; normal with Danish rifles.
I know someone who was in the Danish army at the time and was involved in preparing these rifles for return to the U.S. He said the sergeant spotted one with a two-digit serial number and pulled it out of the line for retention there. He was also involved in the destruction of a large quantity of M1 steel helmets (50,000 I think). The pots were all sent off for scrap and the liners were burnt.
