Garand and M1 carbine issues

I do not normally name my guns...but the Garand just begged for a name (or is it the enblock that gets the moniker) - the 8-ball.

Question on sighting the M1 carbine...would zeroing it at 25m also give me POA=POI at 100m or so?

A scoped .243 or '06, etc, generally is about 2" high when zeroed at 25 yards. I'm guessing, but with the Carbine sights being closer to the axis of the bore than with a scope, and with the slower MV, you'd be in the ballpark.

Put it this way: You should be on the paper, and not far off the center...

Close enough? :), Art

We sighted my son's newly purchased M-1 carbine in at 25 yards. When I shot it last week at 100 yards, it was pretty close.

I was surprised to find it much more accurate than I expected (1" at 25 yd., 5" at 100yd.).

For iron sights, I believe you're looking at about 18 yards. I'd run it on the web-based ballistic computer, but, sadly, it's no longer online at the address I used to have.

I fired it last night. It only took six rounds to sero it in for windage! I fired 25 rounds and let two pals fire 15 each...about half of that broke in the action so that the bolt moved along without hestitation. Seemed pretty accurate. Fed soft point ammo fine.

Recoil was minimal, the rifle very comfy to use. The barrel handguard intrudes in the line of vision but doesn't make aiming any harder. I don't think that the sight has any elevation adjustment except for the range markers...am I missing something? Is the lowest sight setting "0" or "100" or "?".

The magazine that came with the carbine had "self-destructed" at some point...I had ten rounds loaded and, when I tried to load one into the chamber, the follower went DOWN and stuck at the bottom and all ten rounds just mixed up in the mag well. Not sure how that happened...a knock on the floorplate after removing ammo fixed it. Ideas?

PS: Also tried a CZ52, range report to come later.
