what is the correct method for measuring head spacing on the M1 garand. I didnt think this could be contriversial. Can someone settle this. Must the bolt be assembled or disassembled?

I've always heard bolt disasembled, op rod removed, very light finger pressure on the bolt as it cams down. If you force the bolt it can ruin the headspace gauge. Lane's Tips page goes into it. -- Kernel
