Game camera questions?

Help me out here..............

Want to get a game camera for use on some public land we hunt.

I see them from $60 to $500............

Give me some direction if you have used them.

I can't imagin, sense all I want is very basic confirmation of what is there, that I need a $500 model but I can see that it is possible that the really inexpensive ones might be more frustrating than helpful.

So what are the really important things to look for?

I'm guessing that for public land it might be a good idea to get one with the infrared flash, not so much for the deer as to keep from aprising other hunters ( Who seeing it go off might decide they need it! ) from knowing it was there.

Input appreciated.

I prefer the infrared flash one models. There is NO flash like an ordinary camera. The camera just makes a click and the deer/game will just stand there and look at it. Mine takes beautiful color pics during the day . I'll post up a couple of pics I got last month..I use the Moultrie Model I-40. Notice the squirrels tail stickin up out of the grass in the lower left portion of the 2 turkey pic.....hpg

buy a Moultrie and don't worry about the flash. "infared" camera's may not flash but they still produce artificial light that can be seen by game. i use the Moultrie 3.1's and love them. Bass Pro has them on sale right now for under $100.00 i believe.

I have the I40 also & I like it a lot save the following points:
-the stap used to attach it to the tree leaves much to be desired, very much [what were they thinking?]
-far as I know there is no security system you can buy to make it more theft resistant let alone theft proof
-it needs to be stationed is a place where it gets plenty of light. Twilight seems to confuse the sensor

I also have an old Moultrie Wal-Mart special. Takes great pictures and I have no real concern putting it out where it may eventually get stolen. The shutter is slower and the battery doesn't last as long but it take great picts.
