Do I need to contact the listed dealer I chose (same one) each time before I order something or should I just expect to hear from them when a gun comes in that I ordered?

You can if you want. Usually they call you.
I always call before I order to make sure of a few things (especially if it's a new dealer):
1. Operating hours
2. Any credit card fees
3. When they think I'll be able to pick it up (I never hold anyone to this, it's just for reference and planning).

I always call to give them a heads up. Then I give them my phone #, just in case somebody transposes a number or two. I don't trust anyone, to follow up anymore.
