Galco Holsters

Hey all, I've been on the look out for a holster for my Kimber Custom II. Been looking at behind the back holsters but haven't found any that I liked so far...
I got on the Galco site and behold they have one holster that jumped out at me. Just wanted to know how these types of holster hold up, and how they are to carry. Once I get my CCW, I'll carry but not all the time, just once in awhile.

I carried SOB for quite a while, and grew to dislike it.

I am sure you will get replies who will discourse more authoritatively than I on the difficulty of drawing without unintentionally covering others and your own trunk and legs.

The concern about inadvertently and unknowingly displaying the gun when the jacket or shirt tail gets caught and you don't know it is real, and you will spend your life tugging at the back of your clothes to be sure that isn't happening.

It really isn't very comfortable to drive or sit in a desk chair with a gun and holster in the middle of your back, either, and drawing from a sitting position means sitting forward enough to draw attention to yourself and warn of your intentions.

Carrying at 4:00 or so largely solves these problems, excepting only that when you are in the car the gun and holster are close enough to the seat belt buckle of a right hander that it is a little awkward.

I am also not very fond of clips for attaching the holster to the belt. You will sometimes pull the holster off with the gun, and they cause more wear on your belt and your clothes than a belt loop.

I don't mean to pick your idea apart. There really is no perfect carry, but I was pretty cheerful about giving up SOB carry. There is a natural hollow there beside your spine that makes it less noticeable when standing and prints less than most other locations, but you give up a lot for that one advantage. Galco makes good gunleather. I have had several of their models for different guns. They make a holster for just about every gun and carry mode/method.
 
I have two or three Galcos and have been pleased with them. Good quality mass produced holsters. I haven't used the particular holster you show as I don't carry SOB.
 
I have several Galcos and they've all held up very well. For the money, they are hard to beat. SOB might not be your best long term carry method for a 1911, but I have no doubt that you'll be very happy with your Galco.

I carry a 1911 in a Galco NSA at 4:00. Wear a cover garment fitting to the weather and it's comfortable with easy access (light jacket). Conceals well too. I'd reccomend it. :)
 
Carrying SOB....

...requires extensive training to not sweep your kidney with the muzzle when drawing. Fair warning.

Do a quick Google or TFL search for "SOB holster" and see what people have to say about it... It's not for everybody, but some people love it.
 
SOB holsters have several bad points. They can put you in a wheechair in you fall on your back on a hard surface. Someone can take it from behind without you being able to see what's happening. I can't understand how anyone can sit down with their gun poking into their back. And any clip on holster is a really bad idea. You want your holster securely attached to your belt where you can see any threat and get your hand on it first. I have seen far too many people lose equipment that was attached with a clip. Convenience is nice. Security is much more important.
