February 9, 2001

Dear Georgia Gun Rights Supporter,

I just found out that this coming Monday, February 12th, the Georgia
House Public Safety Committee will be holding a hearing on H.B. 304,
a bill by Representative Robert Franklin (R - Marietta) to eliminate
No Safety Zones for concealed carry permit holders.

That's why I need you to contact your Representative immediately if
he or she is on the House Public Safety Committee.

Tell your Representative to support H.B. 304 at every opportunity.

If your Representative is on the Public Safety Committee, tell him
or her to report H.B. 304 to the House floor for passage, without
any amendments that water down or weaken the bill.

Under current law, honest, law-abiding concealed permit holders
cannot carry concealed at a "public gathering," i.e., sporting
events, churches, public buildings or restaurants that serve
alcoholic beverages.

This renders countless Georgians completely defenseless while they
are at a ball game, eating a meal or going to and from their car at
their favorite steak house or pizzeria.

H.B. 304 would simply restore the right of self-defense to honest,
law-abiding concealed carry permit holders and eliminate these No
Safety Zones where criminals commit their offenses against citizens
left completely defenseless under the current law.

If he your state Representative is on the House Public Safety
Committee, please call or e-mail him or her immediately. The
Committee is holding their hearing on H.B. 304 this coming Monday.

Use the roster below for your Representative's phone number and
e-mail. This weekend your Representative won't be in session; he or
she will be in the district. So please call your Representative at
home this weekend.

To find out who your State Representative is please go to
http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm and in the Guide to States
section click on Georgia.

Don't delay. Your right of self-defense hangs in the balance.
Please act at once.

Sincerely,

Dennis Fusaro
Director of State Legislation

Done. Sent email AND a fax. This is a good bill to support. it's about time we denied these wackos the opportunity to turn these off limits areas into shooting galleries.

let's NOT let HB 304 die in commitee :)

Also don't forget about HB144.......

> Is this true ? or are they mixed up with HB 144?

PLEASE FORWARD OR POST

It's no mix up.

Bobby Franklin has just introduced HB 304 to exempt carry
permit holders from the public gathering restrictions: the
legislation would permit license holders to carry their gun
into a restaurant where alcoholic beverages are typically
served. Under current Georgia law it's illegal to carry your
gun with you into a restaurant where alcoholic beverages are
served, and many restaurants do serve such drinks.

HB 304 would help cut down on the rash of gun thefts from
cars parked outside restaurants--a favorite source of supply
for armed criminals. Your gun is safest when you keep it
with you so you cab safeguard it. And it safeguards you.

Also, this bill could help prevent any Luby-style restaurant
massacres in Georgia.

The bill would also let people carry thoir pistols into
venues for sporting events like Phillips Arena, Turner
Field, or the Georgia Dome. Unfortunately, the House bosses
think this goes too far, and they've assigned it to the
House Public Safety Committee where it will likely get
bottled up or killed.

In contrast, HB 144 has been assigned to the House Special
Judiciary Committee. HB 144 has an excellent chance of
approval because House Pro-Gun Leader Brian Joyce (R-Lookout
Mountain) sits on this committee.
