G42 or G43--what would you do?

I've shot both pistols and found both Glocks to be impressively accurate and easy to shoot. The 42 was a little harder to hold onto for me, but also lacked the pinky extender of the 43 that I shot.

All things equal I'd go for the 43. 9mm has more punch and is cheaper to shoot, and 380 isn't what I'd seek after. But I'm looking for something small and thin and concealable under light clothing. It wouldn't be my primary self defense tool.

Now here is where things are NOT equal. My range is selling off a used G42 for $300 this weekend. The cheapest I've seen any G43 has been about $450 which would buy a lot of practice ammo!

This seems like a good price for a slim gun that wouldn't be my primary range or carry gun. It's small enough to serve in a pocket if necessary but much easier to shoot than the microscopic pocket guns like LCPs.

What would you do? Take the deal on the 42 or hold out for a 43?

(Note: "I'd buy a full-size 1911 is not a valid answer here :D)

It sounds like you answered your own question.

If there is one lesson in gun buying that I think ALL gun owners agree on, its buy the gun that you really want! If you would rather have the G43, spend the extra money on it, or wait and save, but don't settle for something that you don't want and won't be happy with.

That's my .02 cents.

NEITHER! In 380, Ruger LCP, Kel-Tec P3AT, Taurus 738.All perfect small pocket pistols.
If you want something as big as the Glock 42 you can get a Kahr CM9 that is the same size, but chambered in 9MM. Stepping up to the G43 size you are in the 40 S&W, and even 45acp single stack size in something like a Springfield XDS
In my opinion, Glock made their suposed "pocket" pistols way too big!

I've go 'em both.

I use the 43 (9mm) for belt carry (iwb) and I use the 42 (.380) for deep concealment (Hot Jocks.)

I like 'em both. The .380 is very accurate and does not kick much.

The 43 is best with standard 9mm loads (I use HST Federals that shoot right where the sights do AND shoot right where FMJ Winchester loads do.)

I've got 'em both. That lack of support for the little finger never bothered my shooting with any mouse gun. I also have a Kahr P380, and though I love the thing for the small size, ease of carry, the larger G-42 shoots better in my hand. At that price, if the 42 is in excellent condition I'd buy it and save for a 43 to purchase later.

I have shot both, briefly. In my limited experience with these two guns, i shot the the 42 much better, like single hole 5+ shot groups at 5-10yds. I wasnt nearly this accurate with the 43. Both are really too small for me to be fully comfortable while shooting, but neither have enough recoil for it to bother or effect me.

I would go 42 and practice a lot with it. Although 9x19 is much easier to acquire.

Its all personal preferences

I have a 43 and I had a 42.
The 42 is too big for pocket carry or concealment under very light clothing and has no advantage in concealment over the 43.
Simply put; the 43 will hide anywhere the 42 will. If you need something more concealable than the 43 you need an LCR, P3AT, etc.
