G3 question

I was in a local gun/pawn shop today and on one of the display shelves there was a Isreali G3. It had a wooden forearm piece and was heavier than some G3's I have picked up. The question I have is it had a selector switch that had 3 positions on it, that were unfourtunatly marked in Hebrew. It was labled pre-ban with 2 mags and a flash suppressor. I could not get the sales persons attention to ask about the selector. Could this be a select fire? It was a rather expensive gun over 1400 bucks.

Israeli G3? Sure it wasn't an Israeli FAL?

Many FAL types will have the three position safety. I doubt very very seriously that it will have a full auto sear. My "new" STG-58 (FAL variant) has a three position too. All the way up is safe, down one click is semi-auto, and foreward is full auto. Without the full auto sear, and with the selector on "full", the rifle will only fire one round. The hammer isn't held back at all, and rides the bolt down. The sear holds the hammer back until the bolt locks up. That's the $5000 part. Take a look at www.fnfal.com and the forums there.

Luckliy I never throw out old gun magazines.

Report on an Israeli FN FAL .308
Same photo as Destructo6's - with wood forestock, bipod, carry handle, etc.

These rifles were assembled by Springfield Armory from surplus [pre import ban] Israeli Army parts and sold as the Springfield Armory SAR48 Heavy Barrel.

Yet had no English markings with all Hebrew instead, including the functional 3 position selector.

The author was highly surprised that the rifle was full auto capable, but considering it was built from mil-spec parts originally for a Squad Automatic Weapon, why not!

Cyclic rate of fire was 650-700 rpm approx and accuracy [SA] was good.

Hope this helps [geez am I envious illegal where I live] who knows, might be worth checking out. :D

If it was a sear cut selectfire Israeli HBar, the price would be much greater than $1400. The image is actually a FN 50.63(?) HBar Squad Auto, but the Israeli HBar looks similar.

The big question is whether this was assembled in a legal configuration or if the shop's smith simply installed the entire HBar kit onto a receiver (illegal).

DSA makes a selector switch that keeps you in the safe and semi range without danger of accidentally switching to auto. Without the safety/auto sear, there is a danger of firing out of battery when in auto.
